(30,439 posts)While missing black and brown girls don't get nearly the same coverage.
It's another example of how the MSM and the power structure in this country view the lives of minorities as less valuable.

(15,031 posts)There was even a novel written about a terror attack using aerosolized Ebola by Tom Clancy, Executive Orders, published in 1996.
Many of the articles I read postulated the potential for wider outbreaks, and concluded we were lucky so far that the incidents up to then had all taken place in isolated regions and that the disease acts so swiftly the victims were dead before they could spread it far. I don't remember any article taking a cavalier approach, or not detailing the need for a cure.

(34,661 posts)MSM is owned and controlled by greedy old white guys. Same crap just a new day. Many of us who were youngsters in the late 40's and early 50's remember the Polio, and small pocks out break. Major difference was, radio stations did not go fear mongering like the twits at Fake Noise and NBC and ABC. Most of the people running Media today never came in contact with any contagious disease in that time frame. The richies that lived on the hill never came any were near the infected people like my rich friend told me. Once the out breaks ebbed, then we could interact. Same crap just a new century. Yes there is racism in the white peoples ranks.

(503 posts)Millions of human beings died from this illness all throughout Reagan's administration. HW Bush really only signed the Ryan White Act because a white teenager from rural Indiana became the "human face" of the disease. No offense to Ryan or his family, but nobody in Middle America, nobody on the M$M news, and certainly nobody in D.C., cared that AIDS was killing gay people or Africans. The psychotic televangelists and senile bigot Reagan just assumed it was "God's wrath" taking its course against the undesirable sinners.
They didn't even react with legislation for Elizabeth Glaser. Just a Hollywood bride of a B-list movie star, no one of consequence.
Uh, wait a minute...

(25,406 posts)Things like scary viruses are always bigger news when close to home. And I think that this would have been the case regardless of the victim's race.
The eagerness of some to inject race into everything is a little unseemly.

Almost as unseemly as the eagerness of some to dismiss race in every instance...
Six of one, half a dozen of the other. Insert distinction without a difference below.

But in the case of Ebola, I am happy to see that most respondents to this thread agree with me regarding the OP's race-baiting.

Criminy, people are dying horribly and others are risking their lives and families to care for them. The last thing this situation needs is charlatan antics trying to score cheap points off of other people's suffering.
Grow some goddam humanity already.
I'll take my chances with the jury.

(667 posts)The quality of discourse over the last several years here has degenerated to mere name calling and regurgitation of talking points. Once the home of great and principled debate, it is falling into a home for trolls and flame wars. High post counts are not always indicative of high intellect.
