and how OUR Texas hospitals should operate. They think OUR Texas hospital system should follow the same regulations as other hospitals in this country, but, WE ARE NOT like other states - WE ARE TEXAS - we don't DO regulations. We call it Texan Exceptionalism. We DO everything right - the rest of the country should be more like Texas.

(16,079 posts)The hospitals would have pitched a fit and Perry would have moved to block the CDC and the NIH from doing anything...and the 5th Circuit would have backed him up!
Perry said that Texas health care was "second to none"...not so much, huh?

(12,017 posts)and for the second to none... i would surmise that many locations would have gone through these same fuckups. no one took this seriously and now we're dealing with shit that could have been stopped day one.

(113,061 posts)There are some businesses and institutions in Texas where Republicans want to increase the amount of regulations and restrictions....women's health services, environmental services, community organizing services, universities.

(51,666 posts)use their freaking brains and figure that out themselves, and if they can't then they need to hire a consultant who can!!!
They are to stupid, lazy, and cheap to do it of course.

(55,894 posts)The 2013 fertilizer plant blast that killed 15 people and wounded another 226 in West, Texas, "should never have occurred," the chairman of the U.S. Chemical Safety Board said Tuesday.
Though the board's report says that at least 14 people were killed, the death toll was updated to 15 people in the days after the blast.
The board's investigation, released a few days after the first anniversary of the explosion, indicates the incident was "preventable," Chairman Rafael Moure-Eraso said. The statement from his agency, which was given Tuesday to reporters, blamed the company that owned the fertilizer plant, government regulators and other authorities for the incident.

(70,695 posts)Goodhair & Greg ABBOTT take credit for lots, why aren't they on the scene of the ebola events?
Or at least in front of the cameras.
IIRC, during the Oops Primaries, Goodhair was taking credit for "the Texas miracle," claiming he had done all sorts of jobs creation and business success. Never naming a single program or initiative for such outcomes he had been responsible for. He never mentioned that TX is a Weak Governor System state or that he had so little to do that he could travel around at Rethug primaries with tax payer security or that almost all of the credit for whatever economics in TX goes to being next door to Mexico with its cheap labor exportation and trade with Mexico and lack of a state income tax that Goodhair didn't originate. I'll grant that Rethug policies of tax breaks to fat cat cronies and lack of regulation and raping the environment have a tad to do with things.
And in the recent gubernatorial debates ABBOTT answered that the way he would defeat the ebola threat would be for him as governor to make contact with the head Rethug-appointed state health dude, real leadership.
Today's news was how the mayor of Dallas visited the apartment complex of one of the ebola nurses to reassure the other tenants. Ebola in Texas has been a constant topic on the news outlets for days, yet no mention of Goodhair or ABBOTT. Oh, Goodhair has been in Europe for some unfathomable reason. They must need some respite from claiming all that credit for stuff.

I wish they would. But maybe they just have to pull their punches, keep their powder dry, and be nice.
My answer to the Texas GOP - "YOU'RE DAMN STRAIGHT WE ARE!!!!" We are ABSOLUTELY telling yer ass what to do. And your job at this point is to STFU and listen. AND COMPLY IMMEDIATELY. Because we left it to you and your way, and look what happened!!!!!!!!!

And they sent him home even though at one point his fever spiked to a 103 degree and he said 3 times I just came from Liberia.

(628 posts)CDC had no authority to force this hospital to do anything. It can only advise. The state of Texas is responsible for regulating this hospital. This said, Texas is a great state, with great people, even if they screwed this one up big time. Dallas is a beautiful city. There are great hospitals in Texas and bad hospitals everywhere.
