Kent State Relatives of Ebola Nurse Told to Stay Away

Kent State Relatives of Ebola Nurse Told to Stay Away

The Ebola-infected nurse who flew from Dallas to Ohio has three relatives who work at Kent State University but did not visit the campus during her visit, officials said Wednesday. A university spokesman said no one from the school had been quarantined but the relatives are being asked to stay off campus and monitor themselves for signs of illness for 21 days.

"They did come in contact with her. They did visit campus," university spokesman Eric Mansfield said of the three employees. The school declined to name the staffers and would not say what areas they visited in before they left campus.

The nurse, Amber Vinson, "stayed with her family at their home in Summit County and did not step foot on our campus," university President Beverly Warren said in a statement. "We want to assure our university community that we are taking this information seriously, taking steps to communicate what we know."

Vinson had extensive contact with Thomas Eric Duncan, the Liberian man who died of Ebola at Texas Presbyterian Hospital on Oct. 8. She traveled from Dallas to Cleveland that day, according to Cleveland health officials, and returned to Dallas on Monday.

That worked out real well for the Nurse that flew her Ebola up to greet them.

Some "authority" needs to step up and take this shit seriously.

Something we all cherish, even if we take it for granted.

If she (THE MOTHER) cannot shed virus until she is symptomatic, and she wasn't, then concern borders on hysteria

FEAR is a cognitive motivation for conservative thinking and behavior (Jost et all 2003) and we should recognize that.

Update 4:21 p.m.

Angela DeJulius, chief university physician at Kent State, said the university has no specific plans to sanitize or cleanse the Kent State faculty members' desks that were relatives of the KSU grad diagnosed with Ebola at this time. DeJulius said it was not necessary at this point in time.

DeJulius said because the employes are on a self-monitoring leave, Ebola is a very low risk to anyone on campus.

The university has protocols in place to handle any communicable disease, she said. DeJulius instructed that anyone who has a high fever or any possible symptoms of Ebola to come to DeWeese Health Center for evaluation.
