(1,249 posts)At least, I offered to help. I've never done it before--not sure what to expect.

(46,436 posts)I'm doing a couple of hours when the early voting first starts at our City Hall and then about five hours on election day as a poll watcher. This is my third time.

(39,343 posts)This year I'll be sign waving for the Yes on #2 (medical cannabis in Florida) people.
There is nothing like working for the winning team on Election Day, it's as good if not better than cheering for a sports team.

(31,849 posts)I'll be (for the 2nd time) shuttling between churches, giving folks rides to and from the voting locations.
I find that a lot more fun ... You always have interesting discussions, though we are prohibited from talking about the candidates or issues.

(113,061 posts)handing out Dem ballot information. That's super important when it comes to judges who are NOT listed as Dem or Rep. Few voters know the names of the judges, sadly, and end up guessing.

(13,775 posts)I get paid $125 for a 7am-9pm workday. But the most important thing is that I've managed to clean up the election process in our district.
It was run by some "good old boys and gals" who were either uninformed or deliberately turned some people away or gave wrong instructions. It ticked me off. So, I decided I would have to step up and be part of the solution.
It's amazing the difference it's made since I'm informed and knowledgeable. They almost immediately made me the Election Officer so it's a lot of responsibility but when questions arise, we "go to the book" or call the Election Office for guidance. We've actually improved the entire county by our example at my district.
Small victories.
