(9,070 posts)even some of my repub neighbors don't like him. There are lots of theories: Alex Sink was simply a weak opponent, independents voted without paying attention, the tabulators were hacked...who knows?
At any rate, there were multiple times in this debate that Scott was simply bizarre.

(13,190 posts)Alex Sink. HORRIBLE candidate and then the stupid democratic party in Florida put her up again to run for a open Congressional seat.

(5,544 posts)Then she had the nerve to use her campaign mailing list to blast email how she was going to work for some financial firm. I blasted her in a return email which I am sure never got read by anyone.
Even so, he still should have lost. But that was in the peak "kill-the-old-people" fear mongering that took place after the ACA.
It boggles my mind that people on medicare voted for a medicare swindler but that was the power of the anti-ACA propaganda.

he also spend more than twice the money she did in the campaign.
and take into account all the things about how florida is a swing state and leans conservative on some things . the party out of the white house usually does better in non pres years and how angry teabaggers came out .

He did, after all, feed Mitch McConnell a clip stating Alison Lundergan Grimes "disqualified herself".

(2,061 posts)Palin already set the bar high in Colorado with that rambling benzo addled speech she gave. I don't know if the wingers didn't see it or are ignoring it but when I saw it, I was surprised in that the description was better than her performance. Truly scary. I wonder if faux said anything about it?

(297 posts)I was born and live in southwest florida area that is predominant right wing. Not one of my right wing acquaintances will admit to voting for this crook the first time. In fact, my husband and I have not found one person that will admit to it. And yet, they did, we're sure. Because these idiots would rather starve and be homeless by voting for a man that is going to steal their pensions and public land for oil frackers than vote For a democrat.

(15,435 posts)Even though I WAS young when I moved here, that was many years ago and Reuben Askew was Governor then. That just dated me, but my husband is a native of Tampa. We were both Army brats who lived in TX so after I graduated he wanted to move back.
HOW things have changed! We left TX just as it was turning Red, just can't seem to dodge the ball!

Funny how that stuff happens?

(15,435 posts)South of Tampa isn't a good place for a Democrat to win an election. I too have lived here for many, many years and don't think we've ever had a Democrat who got elected to Congress. Still, I make no bones about who and what I stand for and I also have (R) friends. They just avoid the subject!

(3,065 posts)My folks run a resort on the north end of Casey Key just past the Fish Hut on Blackburn Point road. My cousins live in Osprey and Gramma lives in Venice. My Aunt used to own the big marina by the Albee road bridge. I stopped to visit with Beggar the dolphin many times. I love the drum circle on Nokomis Beach. In fact, I'm heading over there tomorrow from here in Fort Lauderdale.

(15,435 posts)It's a nice neighborhood, nice neighbors who have lived here a long time too. This side of 41 is quiet and laid back with easy access to the beach and close enough to I-75 to avoid a lot of traffic during season. You know the area so obviously understand what I'm talking about. Many of our friends from out of state who want 2nd homes find this place a very good option. Of course Casey Key is pretty pricey, not a place that's affordable for people who don't have a few $$$. We aren't one of them.
We think it's one of the better places to live in Florida, at least for us. Politically more R's than D's, and I do have to take my yard signs in at night! The places you mentioned are very familiar to me.

(89,279 posts)there are times when it's no longer about campaign strategy , money or anything else.
sometimes candidates and the people who vote for them just suck.
this includes democrats also like the ones in california who voted for arnold .
He lies about the lies he makes, how sadly typical.

(3,059 posts)I listened to this 3 times (yes, it was painful), and I still can't figure out what he was trying to say. Did he really think Crist wasn't going to show up? So it took him 7 minutes to come out? What I really found disturbing was the applause he received when he finally walked on stage.

(15,435 posts)no sense, but even with how juvenile this looks... DON'T count Scott out! Not sure if anyone noticed, but the moderators last night seemed pretty much Pro-Scott! I just hope this moves the dial for the Independents here because Repukes WILL vote for him! They may not tell you, but Democrats REALLY need to turn out BIG TIME!
They still have another debate and "redemption" is what Scott's advisors will be honing in on like a laser! Pun intended! I've already heard his "supporters" bashing Crist even though it's well known about the "fan" issue. I think the Washington Post showed proof that Crist stipulated a fan and it seems it was agreed to, but listening to local coverage today they are attacking Crist regardless!
It is what it is. But then I do live in a very Red district and these comments aren't anything new. They seem to find a way to "have his back" no matter what! Saying Crist was just as much at fault for demanding his fan!
