Follow Oregon's Lead: Mail-in Voting!

Oregon has mail-in voting. Eligible voters are given free voting cards and can vote at many places of business. This ensures the RIGHT to vote. We should be pressing for the entire nation to do this.

as I always do, in the mail. I will vote and then return it either by mail or by dropping it off at the Elections Office, which is my favorite way to do it. Never heard of 'free voting cards' nor of voting at a place of business.
Every home is a polling place. Every sofa a voting booth. There is no need to go anywhere. We vote anywhere we wish.
Maybe you are speaking of a last minute method or system for those who are not domiciled of which I am not aware?

It is a great, voter friendly system and I recommend it to all of those States with long lines and scant polling places.

I heard you have free voting cards, but I guess I was mistaken.
There are a lot of states with long voting lines and scant polling places, especially in minority neighborhoods.
Do you think mail-in voting ensures our right to vote?

Registration can be done online, by mail or in person. Most people register when getting a driver's license or registering a car. ID is established once, at registration using one of the following:

Valid photo identification, including driver's license.
Paycheck stub with name and address.
Utility bill with name and address.
Bank statement with name and address.
A government document with name and address.
http://www.dmv.org/or-oregon/voter-registration.php

Online and mail in registrations have a process for the ID but that's a one time thing. After that your ballot just shows up, no showing ID again and again.
I know that people without a home can list their residence even as 'on the street' and use any mailing address they have access to or can also pick up a ballot if needed.
I know that people who have disabilities making it impossible or difficult to use a 'regular ballot' can either go to a center or an official will bring to them a Tablet which allows for voting with voice, touch, whatever it takes. The ballot they mark on the tablet device is printed out on the spot creating a ballot that is just like other voter's ballots. The tablet retains no record of the vote after the print.

Oregon and our Sec of State Kate Brown put voter access high up on the list of priorities. Voter participation is something this State wants to see always increasing.

process in the beginning---but now, Years Later......
DON'T MESS WITH OREGON'S VBM

Ballots are mailed out just days after the registration deadline. We have about 3 Weeks to Vet, Research and Discuss all the candidates and issues. I Love it.
If one chooses to do all that? They are way more Informed as a voter. We need more of that.
I might be a bit biased But, In my opinion-Oregon Is the "Gold Standard" for Vote By Mail. The entire country could use Oregon's system as a model to create their own.

Was Oct 14, 2014. However, you should call your local county clerks office if you are an established Oregon voter for additional information/instruction.

As a side note, it is important to remember-Oregons GOP in 2011 and on behalf of Marion and Polk County Americans For Prosperity Branches...requested Vote By Mail be Repealed. The bill was drafted and went nowhere-this time. It is HB3506
http://gov.oregonlive.com/bill/2011/HB3506/

This year "they" try to mess with "our" voting/electoral system with M90! My family are All voting NO.

I heard about Oregon's voting methods from an ex-Oregonian.
What are the Republican "official" reasons for repealing this method?

in Southern Oregon attended a debate in 2012 with GOP candidates. They were asked that very question, especially since one of the co-sponsors was one of the candidates. He stated (the gist of it) in front of a room full of seniors that they had little faith In seniors ability to make informed and reasoned choices! And of course the standard "Voter Fraud Concerns" we hear echoed across the country.
The audience gasped, to say the least and then Voted For these jerks!

Trend! I gotta tell ya-I've (personally) not heard of a single solitary person who is voting "no" on 91. That doesn't mean "squat" in the bigger picture-however-if "we" could be used as a credible sampling and IF Oregon turns out-we might see some "good things" for our state this year.
There is confusion, in my experience over M92. We need to Educate, Educate, Educate about the benefits of information and Choice, imo.

We do have the best system in the country. I can't even remember how I used to actually vote back in the olden days when physically going to the polls was a necessity. But I do recall standing in line forever while people took their sweet time trying to figure out how to cast their votes.

Just thought I'd throw that out there for all those who think that because I'm not a fan of the POTUS, his administration, or his "legacy," I'd just stay home.

I DID stay home. I sat in my comfy recliner with a nice hot cup of coffee and filled out my ballot this morning. It will be in the mail tomorrow.

Democrats got votes in all state-wide offices...because they were the best choices on the ballot. To be honest, I'm not real thrilled with the Democrat running against Walden for the House, but between her and Walden, it's a no-brainer. Not that she really has a chance.

I did NOT vote for many local offices. When people are running unopposed, I don't bother. It's not like they need my vote. Besides, some of those running unopposed were republicans. Fuck that.

I DID vote yes on all of the ballot initiatives...with the exception of 90.

While the rest of the nation is frantically doing last-minute campaigning and arranging their schedules to visit the polls, I'm done. Now, if I could only somehow filter all those damned tv ads trying to influence a vote that has already happened.

Arizona has vote by mail. Anyone can have a ballot mailed to them and once you are on the list it goes forever. We do still have polling places because some people just want to do it that way.
