An Ebola scare aboard their cruise ship already had disrupted the vacation of an Omaha family.
Then, after they got home, an adult daughter found out via email that because she had been aboard the ship, determined to be Ebola-free, she wouldnt be starting a job she secured before the cruise.
An infectious disease specialist said Monday thats an example of the irrational fear about Ebola that has swept the country.
Ebola unquestionably is a dangerous virus. It has killed thousands of people in West Africa and one man, Thomas Eric Duncan, who flew from Liberia to Dallas after contracting the virus. But Dr. Mark Rupp of the Nebraska Medical Center said that developments Monday reinforce the message that the public is safe and that Ebola is not very infectious in its early stages.
