Remember when George H W Bush said he wants a "kinder and gentler" America? That's just not happening for the most part. Work is more harsh now, with weakened unions, more working hours, and less pay. In my case, I have experienced more harsh working conditions, with severe rules on days of sickness. Also, the police is more harsh now. In addition, the social safety net is being weakened and loans are more difficult to get. "Kinder and gentler" was just lip service.

to be Kinder and Gentler too - certainly for people at high income, America has been Kinder and Gentler over the past 20 years.

The government partially subsidizes purchases of yachts, beachfront homes, and private jets. That's niiiice!
