And he will pay no price for savaging vets as takers. To add insult to injury he implies he is the one saving US and vets are NOT. That maybe they are to problem.

Are you saying combat vets who develop PTSD were all alcoholics or "weak" somehow before they went to war?
That's the most generous interpretation I can think of for what you have said, and it still makes me angry. An explanation of what you meant would be appreciated, because I really want to believe you aren't saying that, or worse. If before PTSD was recognized and treated vets turned to alcohol as a way to make the nightmares go away, make the panic attacks stop, etc, then you're still putting the blame on vets instead of the VA for failure to recognize and treat what was called "shellshock" at least as early as WWI.

(15,682 posts)trying to interpret the post by FreakinDJ the way you are. People with PTSD and other similar disorders have been left to deal on their own for years and years. Drugs and alcohol have been the only buffer between life and death for many. I can't even imagine looking at it the other way around.
Bad and tragic experiences can cause some pretty harsh lifelong traumas. We all know that.
Please don't deny that most sufferers have been left to treat themselves.

(17,644 posts)For you to come here and tell a combat veteran what is real about PTSD is the same as Mikael Savage's comments
What WWII vets never came down with PTSD ?
Korean Vets never came down with PTSD ?
Vietnam Vets never developed PTSD ?
You never knew anyone who returned from WWII, Korean War, or Vietnam experiencing nightmares or flashbacks 5, 10, 15 years later? I knew/know quite a few - very closely, personally (meaning I didn't have to read about it on the internet to know it existed)
You have completely side stepped the fact PTSD has only been VERY recently accepted by the APS and only after much delay and drummed up controversy from the Right. The above aforementioned rightwing rant is yet another example
What do you think all those WWII Vets suffering from PTSD did 50 - 60 yrs ago to cope ? And believe me they experienced way more horrific scenarios then our returning Vets today.

(2,004 posts)My support goes to our vets who have paid a terrible price to enrich a few evil men and women. The vets signed up to serve their country for honest reasons and then are abused by the GOP and their vile minions.
We progressives need to do more to support our vets at the local level. I know a family that does a deer hunt for disabled vets. It is a great day for them. Does anyone have other ideas for local groups to do something to help our vets?
