After an energetic Democratic campaign to get new Texas voters to the polls, turnout rates spiked on the first day of early voting in the state.
According to figures released by the secretary of states office, Texas six largest counties all saw increases in voting Monday compared to the first day of early voting in 2010, the last midterm election.
The voting surge came amid an intense push by groups supporting Wendy Davis, the Democratic candidate for governor, to register and mobilize millions of new voters, many of whom are minorities. The effort was led by Battleground Texas, a group of former Obama campaign veterans aiming to make the state competitive over the long term. Texas has long had some of the lowest voting rates in the country.

(53,661 posts)Texas is a so-called red state, but youve got 10 million Democrats here in Texas. And there are a whole lot of people here in Texas who need us, and who need us to fight for them.
~President Obama
With 14 million new registrations, the GOP is going wild. There are more Texas Democrats than the naysayers and Texas haters online.
GOTV, Texas! The spirit of Ann Richards lives on. The OFA keeps on giving. And thank you Eric Holder!

(82,849 posts)The higher the turnout, the better for Democrats. Let's see if Texas really is trending Democratic.

By actual royalty?

(15,224 posts)Hell, Governor Goodhair is deemed "royalty" by some of the dipsticks down here. Abbott is his heir apparent.
And screwed? Well, that word has a lot of meanings! If you're a Texan needing healthcare, then you understand the meaning conveyed.
(No offense meant, and none taken. I'm just being "that way", too!)

(16,916 posts)and a "Likely Voter" is whomever the pollster determines them to be.
The BEST way to confound a poor polling response is to change the very definition of "Likely Voter"
I will absolutely have a pollgasm if Texas is able to redefine just who it is that is really likely to vote...
