Wow... and I thought Republicans had the market cornered on straw-men

I probably don't represent a meaningful subset of DU members - I've been here for years, have a tiny number of posts, enjoy the give-and-take... only there's damn little give and take any more. Aren't we supposed to be the ones who can have multiple thoughts in their heads at the same time?

I appreciate everything the President has accomplished, against obstacles that no President in my lifetime has had to confront, with an recalcitrant Congress attempting to block his every move, welfare of the country be damned, and I've never once regretted voting and volunteering for him twice and donating to him once.

I am also frustrated by things that haven't happened, the banksters being held to account for their criminal role in the recession, the failure to get out of the middle East militarily chief among them, and wish the President had attempted to do more in those areas.

I know that every election matters, that I would never skip voting, and I vote exclusively Democratic (if we had a sane Republican running for something in this state, I'd consider it, but I've been stuck with Gardner as my non-representative for the last 4 years, have Ken Buck running for Gardner's seat, and Bob Beauprez running for governor - believe me, I voted (past tense) for Udall, Vic Meyers, and Hickenlooper). The thought of Gardner winning Udall's seat running as a "bipartisan" sets my teeth to grinding...

At the same time, the e-mails from all of the various Democratic candidates and organizations insult my intelligence, which I somehow find annoying. Ironically, the candidates with the least national support send me the most straightforward e-mails. I can't afford to help financially this time around, but they get my time, and they have my vote. But the fact that the DCCC apparently decided that my house district was a lost cause (leaving me with Ken F---ing Buck as my new non-representative!) frustrates me even more.

I can think all of those things. At the same time! Really! None of them preclude the others! Probably boring as hell from a discussion perspective, I admit - but any more, what it feels like is that the Obama supporters want to insult his critics, and his critics want to insult his supporters, and damn few frequent posters seem very interested in either understanding or being understood.

I'll go back to my lurking corner now - but I feel better having gotten this off of my chest...

Maybe Meyers will win...Polis is my rep. After years of pseudo representation by Tom Tancredo and Mike Coffman, the Legislature did some redistricting in our favor. Send money to Romanoff every pay period. Try not to watch television to avoid the ads. Having the Denver Post endorse Gardner made me sick. I feel your pain.

Speaking of being insulting to one's intelligence - that editorial basically took a campaign flyer for Gardner and turned it into an endorsement. I've been paying attention, I've seen Gardner vote with the orange-man 99+% of the time (until this year, when he coincidentally discovered independence at the same time that he decided to run for state-wide office) - apparently the Post hasn't.

I watch as little TV as I can, but I still see his ads, and it's a wonder I haven't thrown a brick through my TV set yet...

"We can't have Udall! He and Obummer have taken away our guns and turned the country over to Muslims!" The stupid runs deep with these people, I'm afraid.
