against Wendy Davis in Texas. Is it a real scandal that could make a difference in the race?

(2,674 posts)Most implied that a ruling from his office will favor the party who contributes the most to his campaign. For example, the fertilizer explosion in West, Texas that killed about 13 people, destroyed a school, many homes and buildings, and the near disaster with stored fertilizer in Kaufman, Texas. As Texas attorney general, Abbot ruled that businesses did not have to tell the people who live near the places that fertilizer is stored that the fertilizer is there. Texas has no safety laws relating to storing fertilizer and many towns are at risk of having the same thing happen to them as what happened down at West.
Also, there was an article about all the legal contracts amounting to hundreds of thousands of dollar that his office issued with no bids, all went to major contributors to his political campaign.
He has ruled repeatedly in support of his political contributors and seems not to care about the little person who has no money or influence.
I just got home from early voting and I cast my vote for Wendy Davis.

But there are plenty more Abbott scandals to choose from.

(82,849 posts)Mr. Abbott got hit by a tree back in 1984, and was paralyzed. He sued the homeowner and the tree service that had inspected the tree the year before. He won the lawsuit, had his medical bills paid, and got a lifetime annuity that paid him $5,000 a month to begin with, and now pays him about $14,400 a month. He has since been a leading proponent for so-called tort reform, which would cap the non-economic damages a person could receive from, say, being hit by a tree, to $250,000 for life.
Now, what looks like raging hypocrisy to you and me looks just fine to the good people of Texas, who are ready to hand over the keys to the governor's mansion to Mr. Abbott. So, no, as real and as scandalous as Mr. Abbott's fucknuts ways are, they won't make a difference in his campaign to be the next governor or Texas.
I've been told that I shouldn't make generalized statements about an entire state, especially any state in the South, so I'll let you draw your own conclusions about the Texas electorate.

(7,572 posts)Ann Richards won, and the polls all showed she was behind. The Democrats turned out. That's the problem here, Democrats (too many) can't be bothered most of the time.

Somebody should ask him what happens to all the back child support his office collects. The State seems to think it is theirs for the taking.
