Stupid State Testing ... arrgh!

So I guess the whole thing is that testing somehow determines if the teacher is doing their job? ...and if the school deserves more or less funding next year? right?

Then why am I being asked to do pretesting BULLSHIT with my kids for 2 whole weeks prior to the stupid tests!?!
You wanna talk about burnout, I'll give you burnout...

My kids are in 3rd & 4th grades, and actually test quite well ( not thanks to the stupid rote memorization, but because like me, they can logically read these things and figure them out...lucky they didn't get the 'test anxiety gene') It just pisses me off to no end that the teacher is passing this shit on to the parents (27 problems a NIGHT? WTF! and I have to correct and sign each page...) and that they are WASTING 2 whole weeks doing nothing but tests and practice tests... You think we could be learning some actual APPLICATIONS of the lessons, rather than doing it over & over...?

no wonder they aren't retaining much from one year to the next...the last two months of the school year is a blur of bullshit!

thanks for letting me vent

If i had the patience, time and money (not to mention a couple clones of myself to do the housework, etc...) I'd be teaching them MY way... which would be REAL LIFE...

Math...? well, here's the square footage of our garden, [plants have to be spaced at 12" 15" and 18" how do we lay it out?
Home Econ? how to feed 4 people on $50 a week?
English? How to write a basic business letter, how to format in Word, How to make an outline, resume, etc...
Science? Let's go for a walk by the stream and name the ecosystems, look for animal tracks, listen to the types of birds, etc... and what fdo they eat? whetre do they live? etc

god there's so much more... but instead i have to go to battle for my kids when the system rears it's ugly stupidity!

My cousin (PTA VP) calls the program "Every Child Left Behind" and is experiencing the same frustrations. I spoke to her when she was leaving to bring refreshments to her daughter's class who were experiencing all day testing. These were eight-year-olds! Can kids that age even sit that long?! It's crazy...

and still teach them reasoning.

It's a tightrope, but it can be done.

I have a son that's doing it. Hopefully, my daughter will fare the same, although, she's a tougher nut.

I don't want him to go to Stanford (Sorry, Cali, folk, I don't want him out there. Y'all have too many earthquakes, wildfires and the like). I'd rather he go to MIT. He wants to go to Georgia Tech (good school AND college football. LOL. We live in the South, what can I say?).

Thing is... he's a straight A student (never made less on a report card) in all honors classes and kicks butt on the testing shit. Yet, he still ran around Walgreens holding Skittles and Arizona Iced Tea and holding it up to see what people had a clue. He never said a word. Just held them up to see who would know.

He's really a very cool kid.

Taking them both the Spring football practice on Saturday. Hoping to drill "the Princesses" out of the daughter a bit. LOL. She really is wanting to go. And you know, she can probably read better than some of the college players and she's only 4.
