The GOP camp and its RW allies are rife with eliminationist rhetoric. They make it clear more every day that they want to snuff the Democratic party and the progressive movement. The intend to rule their way with the help of the Christofascist. They do not intend to represent anyone but the super rich. The increasing stridency of their voice and vitriol is something that the country should pay attention to. Ask yourself in a quiet moment. Is the GOP really no different than the brown shirts in Germany in the 1930's.
Ted Nugent is the latest hate monger in his speech to the NRA every day. You have to take what he says serious when he tells the NRA convention to vote for Romney and the GOP. He says we will be like Indonesia if Obama wins (code for being Moslems). Then he ends by says that we must CUT THEIR HEADS OFF IN NOVEMBER.
What is most enlightening is the audience soundly agreed with him. All these are NRA nuts by the way.
I have yet to see any GOP politician even question him on this issue. Romney apparently agrees because he is silent on the matter. Now I know that I have said that we are not in an election but a political, cultural and social civil war in this cycle. Even though my words may be over the top I now wonder.
What are they saying behind closed doors?

(11,804 posts)Eliminationist rhetoric has been GOP base talk for years - Limbaugh pioneered it and they all do it; it's the natural end to having a firm and self-obvious (to you) ideology. If you believe that you have the right answer, and that the right answer is clear to anybody who takes time to study the issue, than why don't other people come to the right answer? Because they are crazy, stupid, or corrupt, and why would you want crazy, stupid, or corrupt people participating in Government.
That said, and I know I'll take flack for this, but I don't think the Republican leadership, including Romney, particularly believes in this black and white ideology. I think they realize that there are enough Democrats and moderates (who wouldn't go along with elimination) that literally eliminating their enemy isn't an option. A few of them probably actually believe in democracy and that the point of our form of government is disagreeing and working through our issues.

(33,688 posts)(I can't call it rhetoric) directed at anyone to the left of Attila the Hun is in many cases highly reminiscent of the Austrian corporal and his colleagues back in 1930s Germany. The eliminationist metaphors are disturbing. And they are not accidental.
