The only other time time Stanley escaped from his "office," the resident therapy dog at the Santiam Hospital General Surgery Clinic pranced a few yards around the corner to the hospital's emergency room and sat down.
The labradoodle was content to sit outside of the ER doors and let anyone interested pet his floppy ears until the clinic staff came running after him.
So when the sweet 11-year-old dog disappeared 3½ weeks ago, the staff assumed he hadn't gone far.
But Sunday night, they learned the furry gray and black dog could roam a good eight or 10 miles afield after he was found running along back roads in the canyon by a couple of good Samaritans. The staff has no idea how many miles the dog logged during the time he was gone; they're just grateful to have him back where he can do the most good.
