What ever happened to the Freddie Mercury biopic?

Some of my Bollywood friends were asking that today. I'd like to know too. Anybody have rumors?

He wanted to stay realistic: Mercury realizing his homosexuality, the gay club-scene in New York, the neverending orgies and the HIV-infection that resulted from them, his unrequitted love for a german bar-owner and how that broke him...

His bandmates wanted to gloss over unflattering parts of his life.
