CNN saying Obama will have to compromise with GOP more, after election.

Blitzer and Gergen: Obama will have to alienate his liberal base and compromise MORE with Republicans if they hope for a Dem win in 2016. Must show their willingness to govern from the center.

I say Obama should govern according to what he believes is the right thing for the nation. If that causes us the Presidency in 2016 than so be it. The country will get what it seems to be longing for...hateful old misogynist white men and their Stepfford wives running everything and the running the country into the ground. Think Reagan, Bush, and Bush.

Congress does nothing. My feeling is Dems will hold Senate. If so, business as usual, or, rather, a lack of business.

If R's happen to take a majority, the Republicans in the Senate can expect to get quite a bit of what they have been dishing out in obstructionism.

Lastly, even if bad legislation gets thru to Obama via budget reconciliation or rules changes in Senate, you can expect the veto pen to come out hot and heavy.

I have my issues with Obama but he's no powder puff. CNN is out of their minds.

The reality of it is the GOP are going to skull fuck us tonight. Then they're going to spend 2 years crowing about it. In the process of that crowing they will, as always, overplay their hand dooming their chances in 2016.

It's basically going to be a repeat of 2004-2006.

Democrats control Executive Branch and half of Legislative Branch, and it's OK for Republicans to filibuster and obstruct everything? But if the Repubs control the Legislative Branch, the House and Senate, then the President is obligated to compromise with them? Thanks for clearing that up.

Democrats control one branch of government - the Executive. They control one part of the Legislative Branch - the Senate. Neither party, in theory, controls the Judicial Branch (but we know how that really works).

BO doesn't have to do a goddamned thing. Because the only thing the GOP wants is to repeal health care (veto) and the house will bring up impeachment (which these asshats in the media want). If they impeach 2016 will be a DEM whitewash and the end of the tea party

Tue Nov 4, 2014, 05:37 PM

If Obama compromises more, he's a wimp.
If Obama compromises less, he's a sore loser.
If Obama compromises the same amount, he's a lame duck.
If Obama rescues a kitten from a burning building tonight, he's an opportunist.

No matter what, the deck has been stacked against him, and the cards are being dealt from the bottom of the pack.

He has nothing left to lose. Will not be on the ballot in 2016. He can use the bully pulpit in his last two years. Legislation is going to be stalled, no matter what. The perception that it is, and always was, the Republicans who are responsible for the gridlock MUST be hammered home in the next 24 months, so we can maximize our already pretty decent chances to flip the Senate back to the Dems, keep the presidency in Dem hands, and make serious inroads in the house, as well.

Obama has the power to steer the conversation here.

Or more importantly, Obama will likely take the signalling that he should work with them more and will be very reluctant to utilize his veto powers. He basically gets to solidify his legacy as a "great negotiator" by moderating the really very extreme stuff that will be coming down the pipe soon assuming the Republicans win a majority.
