US Regrets Russia Skipped Nuclear Security Summit Meeting: White House

WASHINGTON, November 5 (RIA Novosti) – The United States expressed regret about Russia's non-participation in the preparatory meeting for the 2016 Nuclear Security Summit, White House press secretary Josh Earnest said on Tuesday.

"The United States regrets Russia's decision not to participate in last week's preparatory meeting for the 2016 Nuclear Security Summit. As far as the US is concerned, the door remains open to Russia joining future meeting like that," Earnest said during a press briefing.

The press secretary emphasized that significant progress in nuclear security has been made at the Nuclear Security Summits and added that the United States "certainly would welcome Russia making tangible and constructive contribution to that effort."

Since 2010 three biennial Nuclear Security Summits have been held in Washington, D.C., Seoul and the Hague to prevent nuclear terrorism around the globe. The next Nuclear Security Summit is scheduled to take place in the United States in 2016.
