(7,549 posts)When I was in college I was in a group called the Nuclear Studies club. It was run by a very anti nuke professor. We tried to raise awareness about the dangers of nuclear proliferation.
We wrote the networks and asked them to approach the candidates about having a debate on the Nuclear issue alone.
Heard nothing back from ABC or CBS but Tom Brokaw wrote us a personal letter back. He said he agreed that it was such an important issue as to deserve it's own debate. He told us he contacted both the Mondale and Reagan camps. He said Mondale wanted to do it and not surprisingly Reagan didn't.
Brokaw commended us for caring about not just our country but the world and said we should be proud of ourselves for devoting our time to act on our convictions, and that's why he tried to help and wanted to write us back himself.
Too bad he is such a sell out now.

I think there is a bit of dementia setting in.
All I can figure is that they give Brokaw a chair merely for the sake of nostalgia.
But no one cares.
I like MSNBC, but I muted the TV and found something else to do while ol' Tom mumble on and on and on.
