(25,247 posts)Wow, this whole place is full of threads saying things like the American people are dumb, etc.
And this is the very reason why Dems lost badly tonight. Because until us progressives wake up and see that it was us ourselves that lost this badly tonight then we will continue to see nights as bad as this one in the future.
Us progressives compromised our principles because all we wanted to do was defend Obama at every turn, we didn't hold Obama's feet to the fire when he started to abandon the principles he got elected on, instead all we did was find excuse after excuse to defend Obama.
When he failed to get Gitmo closed, we excused it as Repugs blocking him and forgot all about it.
When he entered Iraq again after saying no boots on the ground, we again found an excuse for him and convinced ourselves what he is doing is right.
When he failed to go after any of those 1%ers that caused the crash, we again excused him.
When the rich are making all time high profits and the working class and poor people are struggling to survive, we blamed the Repugs and excused him.
When he failed to deliver the promise of immigration reform, we absolved him of blame.
When fracking increased under his presidency, we again let that slide.
The above list can go on forever, but the point being that Obama disappointed and reneged on so many things, that a lot of progressives simply gave up because they didn't have any reason to vote this time around.
Obama caved and compromised so many times with those ignorant Repugs, that he lost the faith of most progressives, and whats worse is that it was the times that he stood his ground that he gained support and the Repugs lost support.
When he stood his ground over the government shutdown, it was Obama that won and it was actually the Repugs that came out losing support, YET why Obama couldn't fight just as hard for other progressive ideals for the same kind of outcome Iis what I fail to understand.

(2,638 posts)It's just the opposite. Candidates should have shouted the accomplishments instead of running away from our president. We all should be proud of what was accomplished in spite of the unprecedented obstacles that needed to be overcome. It's WHY the people don't even KNOW all the good things in the past 6 years. There have been enough posts listing them and enough articles so I'm too tired to look them all up now.
The people see no difference between red and blue so they vote on the guns and religious red platform. That's OUR fault because our politicians don't enthusiastically brag about what we accomplish and what more we need to do.
KY voters still don't know that the healthcare they love is really OBAMACARE!!
And by the way ... please let me know of any president who gave us all they campaigned on ... red or blue. As much as I like Clinton he sold us down the river with NAFTA. He joined the R's on welfare. I'm so fucking tired of this shit I could spit when I read tripe like this.
HAHA, you think people need to be told about the accomplishments to get them to vote.
You don't think that if people's lives dramatically improved because of these accomplishments, that they would already know it and vote to keep their newly improved lives?
Healthcare is a great accomplishment, and every dem candidate should have shouted from the rooftops that they supported it and that it was democrats that improved peoples lives with it.
But lets be real, people are going to decide who to vote for and whether they will vote on the one issue that nearly always decides elections, the pocket book issue.
I (and I am sure many, many more people) watch everyday as the rich just keep reaping the rewards from this recovered economy, whilst the working class and poor keep losing more and more.
How on earth can a dem president preside over 6 years where the rich make all time high profits and the ordinary people either lose more or just stagnate where they are?
Trust me, if people felt their lives improving with the ability to financially survive better, than they would not need to be told about it, they would already know it when they go to pay their rent/mortgage and bills and still have some money left over.
