NOT a setback. Just a temporary stall

I predicted we'd hold the senate narrowly. So did a lot of people. We were wrong. So what?

The Republicans don't have a filibuster-proof majority and the President has veto-power.

As several pundits mentioned yesterday, control of the Senate isn't necessarily a good thing for Republicans. They now have to work with the man whom they've spent the last six years telling their base is Satan. If they do that, they run the risk of giving Obama legislative victories (even if those come from compromise.)

If they DON'T work with the President, they show that even with power they can't govern.

Either way, this sets us up for an even bigger Presidential year. And the 2016 congressional races look much better than this year ever did.

We've lost bragging rights. Thanksgiving dinner may be a little more awkward. But aside from that, NOTHING has really changed.

Will they be able to impeach Obama?
I'm also reading they can eliminate the filibuster.
It ain't going to be pretty in this country!

But not nearly enough votes to convict in the senate. I do hope they try it will backfire big time on them. As for the filibuster its not going anywhere.

with that old chestnut of the minority party....coming into vouge. Republicans vote in every election (every) when will Democrats learn that. W/o the state house it hard to keep the WH.

It couldn't have been more obvious. And control of the Senate is a bad thing for the American people. Think about Inhoefe as Chair of the environmental committee, for example. Yes, they'll give Obama legislative victories: Fast Track, terrible trade deals, Keystone.

This isn't about "bragging rights" and you folks who frame it this way reveal a lot about what matters to you. You act as if it's just some big game.

They control every penny of discretionary federal spending.

So, Keystone is going to be approved. TPP? Done deal.

Rollbacks on regulations? Certainty.

Obama's going to have to make concessions just to retain funding for Democratic priorities.

And hoo boy let's not even get into 'entitlement reform.'

Also: what they hell are the Democrats going to run on in 2016? Can't run on Obama's record, can't really run against it either. There won't be a Republican record to run against.

Now - it won't be going in directly in my backyard -as my borough is not to be impacted -but I can't wait for some rich hunterdon county republican's property values to go down!

prepare for 2016. I have put that out there several times, and since no one bites, I assume the problem is that there aren't enough progressives around that are independent from the crooked things that I'm trying to expose in my community. i.e. it might prove uncomfortable to Thirdway-style Democrats.
