I'm not much interested in the blame game. I want to know, what are we going to DO?

Our country is full of people who are afraid and paranoid. Most of them don't vote; less than 20% of the population did so yesterday. Most of those who did vote will probably tell you they were voting AGAINST something, instead of FOR something. Most of the candidates who won last night didn't offer much except a lot of fear based messages about protecting us from one evil or another; domestic and foreign. They didn't need a message, didn't need to give specifics about exactly how they're going to improve the lives of Americans. But by golly, they're going to FIGHT....something. And put a lot of money in their pockets while doing it.

The media inundates us with negative messaging constantly. Telling us how we're inadequate and what we absolutely must have to make ourselves happy; and of course, the news stories are all about people harming and hurting each other, blah blah blah.

We have been conditioned and molded to believe people are out to get us at every turn. Especially if they're different than we are in any way. Our entire society is mired in negativity and separation from each other.

That's what we need to change, if we are to survive. Somehow, we've got to start changing the narrative, and stop buying into the negativity we are constantly fed. The change has to start within each of us. Refuse to participate in the fear, and think of ways, in our daily lives, to feel good and let that flow to others. In spite of the craziness swirling around us.

We can't render fear ineffective by participating in it.

How about closing Guantanamo? Wasn't that supposed to be the first thing Obama had promised to do right after he was sworn in in 2009?

I don't want to hear any "but Congress won't let me" excuses. If Obama can start wars in Libya and Syria without getting Congress to authorize it, he can shut down a military prison/torture camp without their say-so as well.

Time to start closing the gap between promises and actions, and this would be as fine a place to start as any.

with regard to Guantanamo, indefinite detention, blanket surveillance, elective warfare, drone murder, etc. He's just not opposed to these things.

last night... regarding Joni Ernst.

Joni Ernst, he seemed to say, was coached and taught how to appear more pleasing on the campaign trail, how to remove any hints of her extremism.. etc..
and he said that she did very well at remaining true to that training.

Reminded me of what he was trying to do for Sarah Palin..but probably not to the same extent.

I don't know whether media training is done for Democratic candidates..but it would seem important if Republicans are spending time and $$ to present a most pleasing candidate. (even if they have to exclude reality, to do it)
