He also seems to be the only dem that has some balls to speak and to fight. The rest just seem to get wishy washier and unfocused with each passing election.

Given all the complaining about how the Democrats didn't run candidates that were progressive enough (or run progressive campaigns), I wouldn't think Dean, whose 50-state strategy involved running a lot of Blue Dog Democrats, would be all that appealing. Some of the first time Senators elected during Dean's tenure included Casey, Tester, Webb, Begich and Merkley -- not the most progressive gang of Democrats.

Plus, comparing the two elections where Dean was DNC chair -- 2006, which was a Democratic "wave" year against an unpopular repub president and 2008, a historic presidential election year, to 2014 -- the sixth year of a Democratic presidency that has been battered (fairly or not) by such missteps as a clunky ACA roll out, renewed concerns about terror (ISIS), and a few others (again, fairly or unfairly) -- is pretty much comparing apples and oranges.

it's also (whisper it) pragmatic. Therefore, the DU purity police will be in high dudgeon.
(Full disclosure: I've known Jim Webb for around 30 years. He is one of then finest men I've ever met. I was proud to cast a vote for him as my Senator, and would happily support him again should he opt to toss his hat into another ring.)

He is concerned about how odious the current political climate is, but I sometimes wonder whether he has the patience to deal with it.

It works because it forces the Republicans to spend money to defend seats they believe are safe.

I'd be happy to have Dean back.
