Fact: This was an uphill battle to begin with

We had many retiring Democratic senators, luck of the draw had most of the states up for election being Republican, Democrats had to defend six seats in red states, and there was the whole Midterm turnout issue. Even without including the big money issue, there should really be no surprise that the Republicans won this election cycle.
