Third Way's statement on why their candidates were steamrolled last night.

http://www.thirdway.org/press/press-releases/third-way-statement-on-the-outcome-of-the-2014-elections

Last night was a sad one for Third Way. A number of our friends and current and former Honorary Senate co-chairs lost their seats. We believe in and respect these Senators, and we fear that Congress and the country will be worse off with their absence in Washington. Everyone is disgusted with all of the gridlock and the failures, but the tragedy of last night’s results is that these Senators were part of the solution, not the problem.

The reasons for their losses were many. Chief among them was a feeling on the part of voters that Democrats were not offering solutions equal to the task of restoring function to a dysfunctional government, and driving economic growth and prosperity that would make their lives better or more secure.

While the results were disappointing, it was a night filled with resolve. At Third Way, we are determined to help find a path forward through the dysfunction and discord. The country can ill afford two more wasted years of gridlock, and we will be offering ideas that can work even in a time of divided government. We hope that the Senators-Elect are coming to Washington in the spirit of comity, cooperation, and progress that the majority of their voters so clearly are demanding.

So there you go. Democrats need to compromise harder in the next two years.

On the up side, us real Dems did succeed in exposing and exploding the DLC's myths, and they haven't been very successful at their latest rebranding effort aka Third Way.

We must always remember that the DLC and, I'm sure their successor organization, have been funded by the billionaires, banksters and global mega-corporations from their inception. The Koch boyos have been heavily involved from the start.

not much change from one administration to the next. So said Carroll Quigley.

Sadly, though (sarcasm as to sadly), there was a massive change from the Hoover Administration to the Roosevelt administration. You want to avoid that kind of thing at all costs. And heaven knows, the "financial markets" (aka the 1%) weren't looking for Republicans to be the same as Democrats. So, really, for healthy financial markets, there's only way to go.(more sarcasm)

A bit more about Quigley:

Influence on Bill Clinton

In his freshman year in the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown, future U.S. President Bill Clinton took Quigley's course, receiving a 'B' as his final grade in both semesters (an excellent grade in a course where nearly half the students received D or lower).[2]: 94, 96

Clinton named Quigley as an important influence on his aspirations and political philosophy in 1991, when launching his presidential campaign in a speech at Georgetown.[2]: 96 He also mentioned Quigley again during his acceptance speech to the 1992 Democratic National Convention, as follows:

As a teenager, I heard John Kennedy's summons to citizenship. And then, as a student at Georgetown, I heard that call clarified by a professor named Carroll Quigley, who said to us that America was the greatest Nation in history because our people had always believed in two things–that tomorrow can be better than today and that every one of us has a personal moral responsibility to make it so.[17]

Good luck with that. Everything EVERY SINGLE THING in that sentence is delusional.

Think Ernst, et al are coming in a spirit of comity? Did this Third Way writer listen to the victory speeches? Spears? Blood? Tyranny? And that's what the candidates campaigned on! Their voters were NOT demanding "comity, cooperation, and progress," but scorched-earth, hatred, vitriol, and partisanship.

"Democrats have no choice but to develop a political strategy and governing agenda that appeal both to liberals and moderates (and the non-trivial share of Democrats who say they are conservative). That can be a delicate balancing act, as both Bill Clinton and Barack Obama can attest. And it will become more difficult if Democrats succumb to a polarizing populism."

republicons can win with a VERY narrow agenda, but democrats have to appeal to moderates and conservatives. so, democrats have to co-opt the republicon message in order to win...except they DO NOT win when they do that. utter bullshit.

They are investment bankers, and their interest in maximizing THEIR profits takes center stage quite clearly. They have yet to convince me that they care in the slightest for the economic interests of the middle class, working class, and poor in America. They certainly don't ever fight for policies that would help them.

They have been very successful in getting the Democratic Party to follow their conservative ideas.

You are saying to completely privatize Medicaid and Medicare to Wall Street :
You are saying that people should be denied the right to vote and there needs to be compromise, let me ask you, is voting a privilege or a right:
You have a media elite and journalist that did not hold the right wing hypocrites feet to the fire, they failed in there job description and you are saying what listen to Meet the right wing pundits Press and that jibber jabber, or better yet Face the right wing Nation and you say compromise :

Sorry, an uber self-absorbed ex boyfriend of my sister's asked my sister at a party how our mother was, years after he'd been told of my mother's death. (She had died while my sister was overseas, visiting him.)

My sister, still in love with him, was speechless. My sister's protective friend did a take off on Simon and Garfunkel's Still Crazy After All These Years and gave him the reply in my subject line When I saw your question, I could not resist.

Two occasions for gallows humor, I guess, the boyfriend's question and this election.

We need populists to run our government, not corporate tools. The reason Elizabeth warren is so popular, the reason why she was so in demand to campaign with Dem candidates who were up for election, is that she is viewed as an anti-corporate democratic populist.

Why waste time analyzing the symptoms, when we already know the cure for the disease?

Repeating the same mistakes over and over again, and expecting a different result is flat out stupid.

That is an interesting way of looking at the results, but===
The same results include the last two presidential wins. The only nationwide elections that are held. It is usual for the party holding the Presidency to lose seats in a midterm.
My Senators and my President are populists. I'm not sure about my Congressman, but even some Republicans try to work for people.
