Baby sea lion joins cage divers to escape shark

Mexico’s Guadalupe Island is seasonally home to dozens of adult great white sharks, which prey largely on seals and sea lions.

But it seems that at least one baby sea lion has discovered a means by which to get out of harm’s way when a giant predator is in its midst: Swim into a metal cage and hang out with divers until the threat is gone.

The shark has to eat and is good for his environment. But good on the smart little guy. May he live long and prosper!

As I diver, I don't think I want to seek out great whites, even in a cage. On a shark dive, we saw a bull shark as big as an SUV and that was enough for me!

with the extra large flippers and tails. Sort of how big puppies need to grow into their feet!

But whatever; he knows they are certainly better company than a Great White. It is believed that, with black wetsuits, humans are often mistaken for seals or sea lions by sharks. Otherwise, sharks do not generally prey on humans. Shark Week on Discovery.
