I will say right now that I didn't take what occurred very hard at all because I was expecting it based on passed trends. Fact is what occurred is pretty normal for a midterm election though I am sure all the Koch money didn't help and might have cost us a few more elections than otherwise. The media will play it as though the country is upset with Obama and is moving to the right but it's simply normal for the party not in the White House to be less motivated during the midterms. I suggest we take this loss with a grain of salt and re-group for the next round.

(13,305 posts)I know a bunch of labor focused individuals who feel the Dems have abandoned them and taken them for granted, especially when they see stories about Obama wanting to fast track TPP. Many of them didn't feel compelled to vote because of this.
I know a bunch of education focused individuals (teachers, etc.) who feel Dems have abandoned them and taken them for granted, especially when they see folks like Arne Duncan in charge of education. Again, many of these folks didn't vote.
I know a bunch of latinos who felt betrayed by Obama kicking the can down the road until after the election on immigration. Ditto on the not voting.
I could go on, but in all of these cases, it's a key voting block who may not be super politically involved, but who have a main, primary issue that they vote on and just were not compelled by "the other guys will be worse" pitch to get out there and vote.
That's our problem and it will continue to be our problem as long as the Democratic party continues to take a "We're not as bad as the other guys" approach as their primary focus.
