WTF! We have lost our ever loving minds and our Humanity!

Elderly Ft. Lauderdale Man Arrested for Feeding the Homeless

"I fully believe that I am my brother's keeper." That's 90-year-old Arnold Abbott, a homeless-rights activist from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, who's now facing jail time for the crime of feeding the city's homeless.

A new ordinance in the city effectively bans groups from feeding the homeless in public areas and on Sunday, police charged two ministers and Abbott under it. They could face up to 60 days in jail and a $500 fine for the "crime."

"One of the police officers came over and said, 'Drop that plate right now,' as if I was carrying a weapon," Abbott told Ft. Lauderdale CNN affiliate WPLG.

The individuals implementing these laws haven't spent 60 days in their entire lives in unselfish service to those in need.

However, these same legislators have spent YEARS creating a system which penalizes those willing to offer compassion to those in need.

Now, a 90-year old man faces 60 days incarceration for feeding a hungry soul...

The building was built during the Depression and the mayor allowed the city's homeless to sleep unmolested in that area. It was the public's land, he said, and they should be able to use it when they needed it. That was 80 years ago when there was more empathy for those displaced than now.

We've been through a change in our society created by media for the most part that allowed the business predators free rein in every aspect of our lives. First we were taught to disrespect others, then ourselves, then the only agency that could keep media and business in check. And people have so many excuses to not care and want these 'inconvenient' people to just disappear.

They don't want to pay for to help or pay to eliminate their housing problem, don't want them on the street, in their neighborhood, or any of the rest of it. And they vote for people to make laws like this.

It's sick.

I'm all of 66, and I've already experienced that. I often tell people there is nothing more fearless than a woman past menopause, because she has absolutely nothing to lose.

Older men, like this one, are much the same.

Which is the Democratic Party dog whistle for "we represent only the people of color with jobs," and Democrats think all poor people are a drag on the society, just like Republicans. I don't see anybody asking why Wall Street lawyers and corporate CEO's are being put up for appointed and elected office by the Democratic Party? The class consciousness of the Democratic Party is with the oligarchs not the working or poor people that we titularly claim as our "base." Where are the Democrats in this area? Why aren't they standing in solidarity with this man and the poor? Crickets....chirp, chirp, chirp....

proposed ordinance here in Los Angeles to be 'tabled' in City Council and its two (Dem!) sponsors shamed into STFUing. They'll probably try to bring it back after January though. Should they do so, my wife and I will be doing exactly what this American hero is doing. Hope LA County has jail cells ready for me and my wife.

I can't afford my medicare co-pays, but I can afford some food. I could feed the homeless, go to jail, and let the state pay for my medical care, rent, and food. We all win!!! Well maybe not the FLA tax payer.
Do you think if they did a little math, they could figure out it is cheaper to feed the homeless, than jailing good Samaritans?
