It’s the Day After Truthseekers. There are a couple of hopeful takeaways from yesterday’s GOP senate takeover – one, if the Congressional gridlock continues, then the GOP will only have themselves to blame, and two, we don’t have to suffer through any run-off TV ads over the holidays. It’s the little things . . . .

The GOP/corporate coup d’etat is nearly complete.

All throughout America, right down to the local level, buried in a tsunami of cash and corruption, our public servants are being morphed into corporate operatives.
Our electoral apparatus is thoroughly compromised by oceans of dirty money, Jim Crow registration traps, rigged electronic voting machines, gerrymandering, corrupt secretaries of state.
The internet may be next. Above all, if there is one thing that could save us a shred of democracy, it’s preserving net neutrality. This fight could in fact outweigh all the others, and may be decided soon. Whatever depression you may now feel, shake it off to wage this battle. If we now lose the ability to freely communicate, we are in the deepest hole of all.

It is Church Night Truthseekers and we have some truly inspiring sermons for you this evening, which might be a portent of things to come once the GOP assumes control in January. In Mississippi, for example, there is a measure before the legislature to “defend” the state’s confederate heritage. A former Miss America has become the movement’s spokes-model. If passed, citizens of Mississippi – both black and white, we presume – would celebrate “Confederate Heritage Day” in April. The Clarion-Ledger offers this:

A Mississippi heritage group has launched a ballot initiative that would appear on the 2016 statewide ballot if enough signatures are obtained.
The 12-part ballot measure, if passed, would amend the state’s constitution to acknowledge “Confederate Heritage Month,” which would provide a curriculum base for school children to learn about “Mississippi’s Confederate history, heritage, achievements, and prominent people,” the initiative reads.
It would also acknowledge Christianity as the official religion of the state and English as the official language of the state.
“We passionately believe in the heritage, culture, values, traditions, and Southern hospitality of Mississippi, the Magnolia State,” the Magnolia State Heritage Campaign website reads. “No more pressing ‘1’ for English.”
Additional proposed changes under the initiative include flying the Confederate battle flag on the grounds of the Mississippi state capitol, mandating that a Mississippi pledge of allegiance be recited after the U.S. Pledge of Allegiance, and the mandatory broadcast of the song “Dixie” immediately following the playing of the “Star Spangled Banner” in public venues.
English as the official language, that would be an improvement. I have no idea what language they speak there now. It’s unintelligible. No more pressing “1” for English – now there’s a cause worthy of a new secession! Now we can dial “m” for moron! Or moran, rather. I wonder what they do to celebrate confederate heritage month? Do they have mock lynchings? Have cotton-picking competitions? Burn some crosses? Treason and slavery – yesirree – that’s some proud heritage! An official Christian religion – so Jewish, Muslims, Buddhist, and (gasp) atheist citizens would be left out of the party? Dang, and just when it was sounding like so much fun! I wonder, who would Jesus flog, Truthseeker?
Also on the pulpit is this bit of pseudo-Christian hypocrisy – a 90 year old man was arrested for actually doing something Jesus would sanction – trying to feed the poor.
In Fort Lauderdale, Florida, ninety-year-old volunteer worker Arnold Abbott was arrested this week for preparing and serving a meal to a group of homeless people. He faces a $500 fine and up to 60 days in jail, local news outlet KHON reports.
Abbott and the two church ministers with whom he was arrested stand accused of violating a new local ordnance that “effectively outlaws” the distribution of food to homeless people in public places, according to KHON. Abbott said police stopped him in the act on Sunday:
“One of police officers came over and said ‘Drop that plate right now,’ as if I was carrying a weapon,” Abbott said.
Also charged was a minister from Coral Springs and Sanctuary Church pastor, Wayne Black.
“We believe very strongly that Jesus taught us that we are to feed his sheep,” said Pastor Black.
For Lauderdale Mayor Jack Seiler, oblivious to the coming PR disaster, warned that the law would be enforced when it was passed last week. From Fort Lauderdale’s Local 10: “Just because of media attention we don’t stop enforcing the law,” said Seiler. “We enforce the laws here in Fort Lauderdale.”

Well, I join in my condolence for pRick Scott in Florida. My sister and BIL worked very hard in Pinellas County against him and for local candidates.
OTOH, at least our Pennsylvania will have rid itself of Tom Corbett.
I'll always continue to seek the truth by supporting Mike Malloy's voice.
I'm loving church night, as usual..
