McConnell & Obama already discussing plans to cut corporate tax rates and pass free trade agreements

Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Wednesday that he and President Barack Obama are already discussing plans to cut corporate tax rates and pass free trade agreements, following the GOP's major gains in Tuesday's elections.

The comments from McConnell, who is expected to become the next Senate majority leader, shed light on the Republicans' potential strategy next year. For months, Republicans have argued that if they controlled both chambers of Congress, Obama would have to moderate his own liberal positions and give more ground in legislative talks. But McConnell's early agenda suggests a different strategy: He will seek to exploit economic policy rifts between Obama and congressional Democrats to press for deals on issues where the president and Republicans already agree.

"Trade pacts," McConnell said at a press conference Wednesday. "The president and I were just talking about that, right before I came over here. Most of his party is unenthusiastic about international trade. We think it's good for America, and so I've got a lot of members who believe that international trade agreements are a winner for America."

The senator added, "I think he's interested in moving forward. I said, 'Send us trade agreements. We're anxious to take a look at them.'

He felt he could work better with Repubs holding both Senate & Congress...and nuanced in there in answer to questions gave much room in "speak" to Trade & new AUMF agreement for the conditions in the ME to replace the post "9/11" AUMF for IRAQ.

He was quite good at being lawyerly...in his letting the press know what could be in the works...without going far enough that it could be called a "direct quote." It was tied up in long riffs over how America was doing good all over the world and how jobs, energy exploration and getting along with our partners was needed so that we could partner in these efforts...and blah..blah...

But, if one listened carefully you could see the TPP Trade Deal, Fracking and Offshore exploration because we are now "Energy Independent" and want to stay that way...along with the wars without end on ISIS that we need to craft a new agreement for...even saying that it will probably be ongoing into the next Congress for the New AUMF Agreement. Meaning the outgoing House & Senate might not give him what he wants but the new Republican one will.

He's a very clever guy.

My guess is that both sides got tired of waiting for him to come down on their side. For quite some time, he's been secretly telling the environmentalists that he has to wait until after the election because he needs to keep the lunkhead union workers on his side through the next election, while simultaneously telling the unions that he has to keep the granola-chomping econuts happy until after the election.

At some point, he has to show his cards or fold.

It's a shame that s many of us are either unwilling or unable to see it. [link:

Obama and then insist that he does the same. You can't have it both ways. Like it or not, that is twice in four years that the voting public have requested that the Republican Party play a huge role in the nation's government. I don't think he'll "sell out" and fall over himself to let them kill ObamaCare, but does he have to go further than he otherwise would in allowing their budgetary demands? Yes, of course; they've been elected to hold congress in its entirety. I've no doubt he'll have to veto some stupid shit over the next two years, but he cannot and should not block everything.

Also, the Democratic senate minority must pick up a huge amount of the burden; it's within their power to filibuster, although those cowards have probably found that it doesn't do well enough with focus groups.

Obama should block (veto) policies that are bad for workers and the masses, even if it means he BLOCKS EVERY FUCKING THING THEY SEND UP TO HIM! Because, quite frankly, ANYTHING these current RWNJs send to Obama for a signature will be bad for everybody, but the millionaires and billionaires. Period.

Something gridlock in defense of the status quo is good if it means stopping things from getting worse.

It's like all the bashers or on steroids. I have seen post after post on this kind of crap, how the president is going to "cave" to the republicans, how he is just like them, and one idiot even posted how president Obama is going to destroy the democratic party. I also have seen many new posters coming in to help with the bashing. Some of them are obviously right wing trolls, but our old time DU bashers accept them like long lost family.

One thing for sure, they aren't going away and they are going to keep on setting their hair on fire, running around declaring the sky is falling, and show what the true agenda is for the next two years. It's not about helping the party, nope it's all going to be about how bad the party is, and never any real discussion about how it could be changed for the better. Get your hip boots out because the BS is going to get pretty deep before 2016.
