I'm thinking of changing to the Republican Party

So I can mess with their primaries. And also jinx them, because the Democratic Party has gone all to hell ever since I stopped being an Independent. That was back when Kerry folded in front of the smearing of his record. Other than the two bright moments when President Obama was elected, it's been straight down the toilet.

I was commisserating with a co-worker yesterday about it. She had stopped being an Independent and registered Republican in order to mess with their primaries back with the Clarence Thomas nightmare, whom she hates with a white-hot passion.

I still can't swallow 4 more years in Dumbuckistan, lead by Teabagger Foot-In-Mouth LeRage.

1. I see no value in that, especially if you want change in your own party. California has an open

system. This means that the actual election can result in two candidates from the same party running against each other in the general election, if they are the two candidates who get the most votes. We had that this year in San Jose where two Democrats ended up running against each other in the mayors race for the general election.

but that was a tall order here in Dumbfuckistan.

My other option is to manage to sell my place and move over the border to Vermont.

...I don't see a lot of value there, either.

Twenty years ago, certainly.

6. Only about half of the states have open primaries.

If you are in a state with open primaries, does not matter how you are registered, of course, but with closed, it might be worth it to switch. Not like you have to VOTE your registration.

Especially in in states that are red..

It accomplishes a LOT:

It seriously skews their "numbers"
It makes SURE your registration gets handled with kid gloves
It would be gleeful to see them all happy because they have a bunch of new voters, and the so sad when they lose

7. May I just say that even if you change to the republican party

you will still have to swallow 4 more years in Dumbuckistan, lead by Teabagger Foot-In-Mouth LeRage. Only then you will be a member of Teabaggers Foot-In-Mouth LeRage party. Better to stay in the Democratic party and shoot arrows at them.

you could work within the party to change it, but it's probably got a pretty tight structure and change just wouldn't happen.

Not worth the risk when you might have a better chance just trying to revitalize the Democratic party.
