My brother is a teacher at an international school is Saudi Arabia. I posted a thread a week ago and it sank: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10025735415
The American Ambassador made a trip to their city in Saudi (in the middle of now where) to talk to officials about the threat. The teachers were told that it was a credible threat and not to travel to the nearest city, go to dinner together, gather in groups, etc.
This week, more credible threats have come in and the principal said the bus that normally takes the teachers to the city next to them (Jeddah) to get supplies, go shopping, etc will not run and he recommended they not go at all.
I know this isn't about the election, but can't we multi-task. This is not getting any media attention and American lives ARE in danger.
American Teachers in International Schools Are Easy Prey, Say ISIS
Teachers in the Middle East should be singled out as easy targets for maximum community disruption, according to a new ISIS forum post
ISIS is urging its followers to target some of the most influential civil servants in the worldteachers.
Amer lists as targets schools in Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Jordan and several other countries that hire international teachers. The post also suggests that would-be attackers survey and be selective about their targets for ease of approach. It names and compares, for example, two specific international schools in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, saying that one takes much greater security measures that the other, making the latter an easier target. The post also discusses surveying the out-of-school habits of teachers to catch them unawares.
American teachers are easy prey, he writes, because they generally commute without taking security measures. The best way to attack a teacher, according to the forum, is to target them in the bus they take to commute to and from school, Amer says. This is something a lone wolf can do, even with using only one weapon and in minutes.
The forum user singles out teachers as valuable targets for ISIS because of their status as influential members of society, whose deaths will cause widespread panic within their communities. It also points out that they are likely to teach the children of diplomats and influential figures in the world of international commerce. Attacks on international schools are, therefore, likely to result in their closure and in the students being taught in their own countries, or in boarding schools elsewhere, according to the post.

(16,420 posts)I wonder how much any of the teachers in the Middle East have been told. I'm just afraid that my brother's school has been specifically targeted.

(16,420 posts)and are trying to make a living. I think some of the teachers are ready to leave because of the threat anyway. Their family is telling them to come home.

(2,004 posts)They are proving themselves to be the lowest of cowards by targeting schools. All the dogs I have ever known were far better than these thieves and cowardly murderers.
I hope your brother and all his coworkers and students are all safe and well.
