So, even the Stoners stayed home...

“So … is anyone voting today?”

It wasn’t as if no one in the room was interested in politics; for an hour they had been arguing over tax, policing, municipal regulation, the difference between Democrats and Republicans, and what the Founding Fathers intended when they wrote the US constitution.

It was just that the patrons of Club Ned were high up in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains – 8,420ft above sea level, and way above the clouds. And they said they were not going to vote for anything that didn’t involve marijuana.

The owners, Cheryl Fanelli, 47, and her husband David, 57, have dedicated their lives to politics; campaigning for – and sometimes drafting – more relaxed cannabis laws, an effort that reached its climax in Colorado this year when the legalisation of recreational marijuana came into force…

Yet without a cannabis-related measure (or candidate) in the state on the ballot on Tuesday, neither were prepared to drive the 16 miles down the mountain to Boulder to their nearest polling station.

1. 16 miles to their polling station?

I'd be a hell of a lot more likely to blow off voting if I had to go 16 miles too.

I had a 3 minute walk to my polling station. We've got to find a way to make it so everyone, everywhere, can simply vote by mail.

We shouldn't be forcing people to spend 20 minutes driving each way to get to and from polling stations, or standing in lines for hours.

went all dem.

they also had pot up for vote. my son is getting very much into politics and discussing with me, the last year. this is something we discussed. why the dems didnt go out, who, the millinium, women, and the white men that did go out.

we did not do it in accusatory, just the why of it. it has been very interesting looking at it, and a truth.

it also keeps us grounded in the relaity that progressive beliefs is the majority view held, regardless of mid term elections.

but no. i did not see that OP. i do know there is different ways to address this issue. and sometimes how people address it is attack, be it blacks, women, our youth, or gays. i have seen that. but, i do not think it has to be that way, to simply address the issue.

there

business strategy.

yes. we took note of that. even my 27 yr old. he was the first to bring it up. we are looking ot move to wa, colo, or oregon. we are looking at their govt since we live in texas, and we want to pick and choose what we do and do not want.

that was his first. colorado swept repug. bummer. they probably have the best laws in some repspect, aca, tax, ect...

then wa, with minimum wage increase to 15.

oregon was lagging. though we liked that state the best. so we were watching the election a little differently. and yes. oregon went liberal cause pot pulled them out of their houses.

That, right there, that attitude is why so many elections were lost yesterday.

I hope the Rethugs crap all over whatever matters to them -- all of them, who can't get off their smarmy asses to go and exercise the right that they have just proven they don't deserve.

But it's a prime example of a large portion of voters, the ones who only vote when it directly affects them in the right now. This is why I am a firm believer in getting important measures on the ballot every election. An excellent measure we had here in Oregon besides the marijuana one was measure 89 or equal rights for women. This was purely a symbolic measure but it was effective for getting people who support equality to vote.
