Had the 2014 Election changed your opinion on the viability of the United States?

In order to get it into a one line question used the term viability - but what I mean is simply this - do you believe that the United States can become a great nation? Or do you think that the United States is a negative force in the world, and needs to go quietly into that good night?

I believe the United States is still Viable - the 2014 elections completely changed my opinion (this would be an odd choice)

I don't believe in the concept of a great nation; nations in general should be relegated to the dustbin.

2. I did not think as it had existed that the united states was viable

the election sadly reinforced it.
Too much wealth at the top and to keep it they are fighting against the science of climate change and against education.
Between the economy and climate destruction it cant last.

the Democratic Party (and it did not start Tuesday). If you want to get elected, you need to propose an alternative that is attractive. This time, dems did not have that (except in the sense that the GOP is terrible and we are a little bit better. Not really a reason to go and vote).

6. The problem is easily fixed

The problem is that there is a great deal of corruption in the government. This is easily corrected by getting the people to vote. I didn't say it was easy to get them to do it; it's just easy to do.

We have endured MUCH MUCH worse and always came out of it. I can't stand the defeatist attitude here sometimes. Not saying the OP is, just in general.

As is a lot of anger and disdain - it's human nature.

9. It all depends on how you want to define "The United States"

If you define it as our Founding Fathers did then that country (ideal) died pretty much when they died. If you define it as a land where the rich and powerful 1% control pretty much everything at the expense of the 99% then yes, the United States is going strong and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. And yes, the United States in its present incarnation, is more a negative force in the world than a positive. Examples:

The US claims to stand for human rights until 9/11 and WHAM! Now detention of foreign nationals without due process and torture is suddenly acceptable.

Carte Blanche support of Israel and its not-so-veiled apartheid practices toward the Palestinians

Special interest groups manipulating/controlling the education of our children

Special interest groups manipulating/controlling science ... especially climate science

And so on and so on.

Vietnam, Watergate, etc., I think we are still viable after a midterm election in which the party that wants a slightly lower top rate of income tax than the other party picks up a few Senate and House seats.

We always take two step forwards, one step back. Sometimes two steps back, then a leap forward.

But this isn't the end of the world. Not by a longshot.
