I have a question, How many of us (the DU) actually work for or with the Democratic Party?

This year I personally, was a pain in the ass to everyone I know to get out and vote. I presented the case for a progressive vote. I presented the case for a Democratic vote. I presented the case for an anti-republican vote. However, I had very limited contact and coordination with the official Democratic Party.
I live on disability far under the poverty line in Walker's Wisconsin. I had no money to contribute to the cause. I had time. I spent some of it here, some of it trying to make some supplemental income.

Simply by only advocating at a personal level and here on DU, I was/am part of the problem.
I want my party to work, so I have to work for and within my party. I will attend the meetings and do my best to drag the Democratic Party left and stand it upright. I see a lot of good opinions and excellent points made here; these would go a long way in the Democratic above ground as well.
Lets go make them there.

I actively participate in DFL Party caucus and convention activities and maintain a website for the precinct. I do door-knocking in the precinct before elections on an individual basis.

So my initial reaction to things not working well is to step in and fix them myself.

good point

I work my precinct, sit on the board of our local Dem club, participate in street fairs and all club activities ...

Rarely have contact with the county organization. Frankly they so disappointed me on several issues that I have deliberately stayed away. Our club president does go to county events and we have a connection person who goes to other things at the county and state level. I will think on what you have said. I cannot cope with meetings but I may start a letter writing campaign.

Or more local entity . They likely will be fullstaffed at this point after election so contact them now for later. Besides gotv door to door canvassing or phone banking they often need people to stuff handout packages often you can do that at home , which they may be able to drop off the materials at your place to assemble and pickup I am not sure what disabilities are in play.
Whatever your comfort level they will work with you. If you are in big red Wisc. country there should at least be a state org. Who can put you in touch with locals
Go for it and at the end of the day regardless the results I feel I did what I could

Everyone's "could" is different - don't compare just do your part IMO

I did not like 4 yrs ago the local township candidates, so instead I worked with the county dems on state and dist elections . Like you , we all want to support what we would like to see become reality, not just what is being offered.

I am the president of our local Democratic club. Also a precint committee person for our legislative district. We along with many of our club members were all in. We phone banked, canvassed, put up signs, anything we could do to help. W e hosted candidates at our clubs, wrote letters to the editor, anything we could think of. Sadly, here in Arizona, we pretty much had our asses handed to us but Goddamnit we fought hard. The koch brothers spent big here. So did the utilitie cos. Oh well. I'm too old to quit now.

If you want to get more involved, call your local Democratic office, explain your circumstances and ask how you can help. If they are anything like us, they can use all the boots on the ground they can get and will probably send a car for you to get your help. there are lots of things that need doing. If you are not comfortable canvassing or phone banking you can stuff envelopes or something else.

You might want to wait a week or so though. We're not feeling much joy in Mudville at the moment.

I was involved in my local party in 08 and 12, but not in between. No excuses. Time to get in there. Democrats have no voice or presence in our county. Time to turn that around.
