The U.S. Navy SEAL who shot and killed Osama bin Laden during the daring 2011 raid on the terror leader's compound in Abbottobad, Pakistan, has been identified as Rob O'Neill.
According to the Daily Mail, O'Neill, a 38-year-old Butte, Montana, native, is expected to reveal himself as the shooter in a Fox News special, "The Man Who Killed Osama bin Laden," later this month.

(43,182 posts)I have a friend on Facebook, an Iraq War vet, who noted how stupid it was for O'Neill to reveal himself and potentially put those around him in danger for their association with him.

(1,348 posts)First, has it been confirmed he was the shooter? I question the media's ability to vet that thoroughly.
Second, I find his claims about his healthcare to be dubious.
Third, the entire point of the special is to make Obama look bad.
Fourth, this guy is someone who is seeking attention for reasons that go beyond his alleged healthcare issues.
Fifth, he's a moron for revealing his identity.

(31,849 posts)"retired" 4 years short of full pension?
I suspect he got "retired"; rather than, re-assigned to a training group. And when that happens, there usually is a good damned reason.

(31,849 posts)Over the years, I have come to know a bunch of Veterans, many of whom served in Special Operations. I have found that NONE of them talk about their service ... you're hard pressed to get WHERE they served, much less what they did ... outside of their circle.

(2,273 posts)job. I can already see how this show is going to go, Mr. O'Neill will be going on and on how him and his team has not received the proper credit and the Obama bashing will commence. Guess what Mr. O'Neill you did your job and you don't get a special cookie for it. And you did not find bin Laden by yourself, you just dropped in and put a bullet in him so congrats, get on with your life.

Somehow, I don't believe his fellow Navy SEALS will have his back after he basically kicked their code of honor in the nads and then crapped on it.
