DCCC cancels Landrieu's runoff ads

Democrats bail on Mary Landrieu

By JAMES HOHMANN and MAGGIE HABERMAN | 11/6/14 2:16 PM EST Updated: 11/6/14 3:51 PM EST

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has canceled its advertising reservations for Sen. Mary Landrieu ahead of the December runoff in Louisiana.

The committee canceled all broadcast buys planned from Monday through Dec. 6 in the state’s five major media markets, three sources tracking the air war told POLITICO. That’s about $1.6 million worth of time. The DSCC is in the process of canceling an additional $275,000 in cable placements, according to buyer sources.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee, by contrast, has reserved $2.3 million of broadcast ad time over the next month.

With control of the Senate no longer on the line, the race becomes less important for both party committees — which each took out loans in the final weeks before Tuesday’s election.

1. Is that really a smart thing to do?

Seems like the DCCC is taking a lot for granted. If she's such a proven winner why is the race going to a run off?

2. Yep. because 1 Democratic Senator less will make it easier to get 50 of them in 2016.

Can we start firing the Democratic leadership please. They are absolutely inept.

And you mean that those insulting emails the DNC,DSCC, and DCCC sent throughout the campaign did not produce enough? Who would have believed that !

3. Your point is valid but she only pulled about 42% of the vote and turnout will be lower next month.

She faces a massive uphill battle.

Why would a Louisiana voter vote for a candidate they know is going to be in the minority?

this sucks....

Not a big fan of Landrieu but she has been a senator for a long time and for the Party to turn their back on their own says a lot about the party. Way to build loyalty, not only for a fellow Democrat but also for her supporters. They will be voting in other elections and they'll remember.

I suppose they didn't think they could intimidate anyone into giving them money on a run-off.

"The DSCC seems to think that Landrieu is a lost cause, since they just canceled several planned ad buys they made for the runoff. The DSCC is saying that they want flexibility for week-to-week decisions, but it's incredibly hard to read anything good out of this move. Before Tuesday, national party groups could argue that they were only redirecting resources to other races, but now there are no other races."

I think they're referencing the politico article though so maybe not true??

They can't have meaningful polls until at least a few more days out from the general election. It's baffling to me. I'm still thinking maybe the story is incorrect - although probably not

18. she deserves support even if she is likely to lose because of her comments on Race

unlike Grimes and so many others she is facing an issue that people still do not like to discuss.

if there were other elections coming up soon that we actually had a better chance of winning and needed to fund i could understand not using the money for a likely loss.

but that isn't the case and the next elections will be the presidential so it will get more attention and fundraising.

I don't like her, but I'm tempted to send her money just because the Dem leadership is so incredibly inept.
