They don't want governance, they want vengeance.

The nuclear option allowed President Obama and his allies to reshape the judicial branch dramatically to suit their far-left agenda. And the Democrats were not shy in boasting of their achievement. This summer, after a panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit struck down the administrations efforts to extend subsidies to the federal ObamaCare exchangein clear violation of the plain words of the Affordable Care Act and the stated intent of its architectsthe newly minted majority of Democratic appointees on that court voted to rehear the case en banc. Sen. Reid announced that the simple math of the D.C. Circuits new majority of Democratic-appointed judges would serve to vindicate Democrats use of the nuclear option, presumably by preserving the administrations signature legislative achievement.

It will fall to the next Republican president to counteract President Obamas aggressive efforts to stack the federal courts in favor of his partys ideological agenda. But achieving such balance would be made all the more difficultif not impossibleif Republicans choose to reinstate the previous filibuster rule now that the damage to the nations judiciary has already been done.

So, they plan to keep the filibuster disabled for judicial nominations until after they get a GOP president and then, once they have had their fill they will reinstate the filibuster rule before control reverts back to the Democratic party.

(34,661 posts)This typical Orin Hatch speech. He is the Senior Rethug in the Senate and third in line for the Presidency. What ol Orin says is he is telling McTurtle to go Nuke. No more filibusterers and no Minority reports. You all just sit back and watch how the Nuke option works. And away we go back to the stone age.

(420 posts)They've wanted to end the filibuster for years, they just forced us do it. They've had their sights set on cutting Social Security for years but they used a feint to get Pres Obama to agree. It's the same MO that got Pres Clinton to "end welfare as we know it". So no, they won't re-instate the filibuster, they will end it entirely because we blazed that trail for them.
