Wandering Through a World of Disillusionment (Part One)

Wandering Through a World of Disillusionment (Part One)

These are merely random thoughts…you might think of it as completely disjointed…read at your own risk.

First, no one here has the right to criticize anyone else for wringing their hands, whining or expression outrage and even resignation. If you don’t feel that way, than you are not human or at least you lack passion. You certainly can’t call yourselves a honest member of the Democratic Party.

We have every right to be disillusioned, to be depressed, to feel rudderless.

Let’s face it…we got our asses handed to us. A defeat of this magnitude has not been seen since WW II. It’s bad….very bad. No, we who are completely disillusioned cannot honestly call ourselves the canary in a coal mine. In some ways…since Reagan, we wandered into to abyss, clueless and without that canary. We just accepted it. Are there exceptions…of course. Many of those that fought the fundamental change that was to occur in the 80’s are present on this board. Regardless…most of us turned the other cheek.

The reason we find ourselves in this upside-down world where our principles as a Party are lost in the fog of war are many…too numerous and complex to be itemized here. However, there are obvious fundamental failures that cannot be ignored.

Shame on all the Democrats who acted as ultimate cowards when it came to supporting the President of their country and the leader of their Party. They abandoned a President who by all counts has taken us from the edge of economic abyss to a substantial recovery…albeit, a slow and lethargic recovery.

The Right has brilliantly moved against the President since day one. And, to even their astonishment, have dragged many of our party with them. The shift to the Right is not only the result of careful planning by those that hold the corporate reigns in this country…it is the result of an almost dialectic force that once set into motion, could not be stopped.

Shame on the Blue Dog Dems who lost sight of the founding principles of our Party…ignoring many of us who actually lived during a time there were true Democrats holding office. They, the Blue Dogs, have no idea what a true Democrat is…in their defense, maybe they shouldn’t be expected to know. They have nothing in their life experiences to call upon.

Wait for one minute while I carefully put on my flame suit.

This country wasn’t ready for a President of color. There…I said it. In fact I posted this very point while he was campaigning for the Oval Office. I was completely shut down and vilified for making such a statement. I was even called a racist. My point then and my point now is that we live is a racist country. This may come as a shock to some of you, but racism is alive and well in America. Why do I bring this up? Because it is, in my opinion, one of the primary reasons why President Obama has faced unprecedented obstructionism since before he took office.

I have tried and tried so hard to find ANY other reason for the kind of hate and vilification set upon our President. For awhile, I thought it was strictly his Progressivism…the mere fact that he is a Democrat. Of course, we all know that (or at least I feel that) the content of President Obama’s campaign and the content of his Presidency did not match. In his defense…they never do.

So, it wasn't strictly his political agenda…it wasn’t the radical transitional change he promised…

I simply couldn’t arrive at any other reason for what he faced other than ugly racism. It was all that remained…and still remains.

There are people in this country that cannot stand the idea of a Negro in the White House…that’s the term THEY use. You may think that the totality of these people would never rise to the level that could impact the Presidency…but you would be wrong.

It isn’t simply these knuckle-draggers who hang on to God and guns…it is the people that used them for political gain. It was sitting right in front of them. The red meat…the deepest ugliest souls that the Right saw as a perfect opportunity to gain power and marginalize the Left. And they took full advantage. This is how you take a minority of racist and turn it into a national movement. Can you say Tea Party?

No, this country was NOT ready for and African-American President. And further…America didn’t deserve him.

Are their criticisms I could make of the President exclusive of his race…criticisms of the man? You bet. But that is for another day.

You want solutions…I don’t have them. If it were my call…Mario Cuomo would be the leader of our Party. If you are a Blue Dog…look him up on the Internet, listen to his speeches…read his vision of America. That my blue dog friend, is a Democrat.

So…to those out there that will see me as one of those teeth gnashing , hand-wringing downers that is the last thing we need right now. Go screw yourself. We deserve to gnash every tooth, wring every finger and reach the depth of depression. Perhaps that will wake us up…because there is only one direction to go once you have reached bottom…and that is up.
