AC/DC founding member and guitarist Malcolm Young is suffering from dementia, his family has confirmed. It was announced last week the 61-year-old would not be returning to the rock band after taking a break earlier this year due to an unspecified illness. "Malcolm is suffering from dementia and the family thanks you for respecting their privacy," his family (said in a statement).
The group said that "due to the nature of Malcolm's condition" Young would not feature on the new recordings or participate in the tour... (said in a statement). The band are due to release a new album, Rock or Bust, in December and embark on a world tour next year.
The buzz concerning AC/DC just reached a new level...with ailing guitarist Malcolm Young stepping away from the band as his nephew Stevie fills in on guitar. But now theres a new photo from the band that is conspicuously missing drummer Phil Rudd.
No explanation was given for Rudds absence, but it was reported recently that Rudd was called away for the bands music video shoots due to a family matter. Rudd was replaced in the video by Shogun drummer Rob Richards...
The drummer did release a solo album this year, but seemed excited about the prospects of more AC/DC music, stating back in August that he felt that every member of AC/DC would have to be dead before they stopped touring and recording...
But now that Malcom is out due to dementia induced by a stroke, maybe brother Angus decided to take advantage of his complete control and fire him for good.

(13,596 posts)he was replaced by Chris Slade just wasn't the same. Slade was impressive but Rudd has more of what I would call a ringing use of symbols in live shows that I much prefer. But since my favorite AC/DC album had always been, "If You Want Blood", it's more of a what you are used to hearing thing I guess.
I should go look to see if there is a more extensive release of that show they recorded that night of "If You Want Blood". They got Bon on one of his best nights, his was viscious The rest of the band as well. Maybe that was a collection of tracks from different shows but I don't think so. I'd love to see them release that whole show on audio.

(44,576 posts)(F)ollowing the failure of Rudd's solo album...(he) fired much of his staff, including the assistant...Rudd phoned an unnamed Australian associate and asked if they would murder his former assistant in exchange for $200,000, a car, a motorbike or a house. The following day, Rudd made several threatening phone calls to his former assistant, culminating in one call where the drummer stated, "I'm going to come over and kill you."
Although Rudd was initially arrested on a murder-for-hire charge, that was immediately dismissed due to lack of evidence...Rudd's lawyer...argued outside of court that "This matter essentially revolved around an angry phone call" (and that) the prosecution's entire case stemmed from an unwarranted police search...91 grams (3 ounces) of marijuana (was) stashed throughout (Rudd's) house in addition to the methamphetamine (he) had in his pockets...
Rudd initially told the court he would plead not guilty on all counts...In December, while out on bail, Rudd got into a "fracas" with a trial witness and his own bodyguard after a "chance meeting" with the witness...In February...his lawyer quit...Rudd will be sentenced on June 26th...
Police raided Rudd's Bureta home on November 6 and found 0.487 grams (0.017 oz) of methamphetamine and 91 grams of cannabis.
