"A man who called into C-SPAN's "Washington Journal" Thursday morning referred to President Barack Obama as "that n***er" before getting booted off the air.
The caller, who gave his name as Anthony from San Diego, California, identified himself as a Republican and started out talking about the direction he thinks the new GOP majority in Congress should take.
"I would just like to say, that the Republicans -- and I'm a Republican -- please do not overreach," the caller began. "I know they're going to overreach but I'm telling you, if you advocate for the repeal of Obamacare and you get too extreme, then Hillary Clinton will be elected President in 2016."
"This is about race," he added. "The Republicans hate that nigger Obama."
Host Steve Scully quickly cut off the caller after he dropped the racial slur.
"Okay, I'm gonna stop you there," Scully said. "We're not gonna use that kind of language."

My sister's in District 52 in San Diego and went to bed Tuesday night thinking the Repub had won and was kinda devastated.. and told me about it the next day. I ask her for the District and names and looked it up and it turns out the gop was only ahead 700ish votes and they still had 50,000 Provisional ballots to count.. Scott Peters the Dem is ahead today by "861".. they'll announce the winner on Monday.. this, of course, could go either way.. but, Hope is Alive!

(17,656 posts). . . President Obama is making history every single day of the week as the President of these United States!!!
That's good news about San Diego.
Thanks for sharing it.
There wasn't an awful lot to be very happy about on Tuesday night.

(297,323 posts)lost yet after all, oh, and the whole damn country.. although it's still undecided...
It was quite the Contentious race.. with "sexual harassment allegations" coming out in the last weeks about the repub, Carl Demaio and then he countered with a charge of his offices being broken into.. kind of insinuating that Peters was responsible. And, So much $$$$$$.. it was being watched on a national level.. so high profile and one to WIN.
I want the incumbent Jerry Peters to win so bad!
Pretty much the whole story..

(297,323 posts)So that's your Rep.. no wonder you were so interested.. I remember Pete Aguilar's name from before.. so did he lose and then come back?
And, who was your Rep from 2012 to 2014?
Thank you! I will pass your message of Good Luck on to Mary in San Diego!

(15,512 posts)elected right after 9/11. Never did much else but vote for GOP crap. Low-key guy, ran low-key campaigns, never had serious opposition, dunno why. Finally retired. Aguilar is mayor of Redlands, next town over and super-conservative, so you know he's got something going on to get that crowd to vote him in. Not sure what he did before that, but yeah the name sounds familiar. I'll look it up later.
p.s. Aguilar ran against a Bloomberg-backed candidate-from-nowhere to get the nomination; she seemed like nice lady, also Latino, but she'd never held office and apart from a million-dollar operation didn't seem to have much going on politically. Got tons of flyers from her. In fact I learned about Aguilar from her negative campaign mailers, LOL. Basically her beef was that he'd won an office and therefore had to be corrupt. Anyway that was an easy decision. Aguilar was backed by the state Dem committee, and the other was backed by Xavier Bacerra, a Dem rep from L.A. that I campaigned for when I lived there, but I still voted for Aguilar.
Cha
(297,323 posts)Maybe I remember him from this.. or not and just think I've read it before in politics.. a lot of names over the years.

"In January 2012 Aguilar announced he would run for United States Congress in California's 31st congressional district.[8] Although the top Democratic vote-getter, with 22.6% of the vote, he finished behind two Republicans, and - because of California's open primary - those two advanced to the November general election.[9]

Congratulations to Pete Aguilar.. Quite the Journey so Far.. Biden and Clinton came to Stump for him!

(11,833 posts)I'm a proud supporter of the President and of Democrats.
There have been a lot of theories about the most recent election. Andy Borowitz has the best one I've seen.
Many have blamed Democrats for the most recent election. I don't. I blame Republicans and those who voted for them.
Thank goodness Barack Obama is President, as he will veto the most awful stuff put forth by the Republican Congress.
All posts signaling a death knell for progressive and/or for the Democratic Party are greatly exaggerated. The country is improving, it is changing, even people who are conservative are now supporting and espousing things that progressives brought to the table, like raising the minimum wage and preserving Medicaid and Social Security.
I believe the Democratic Party will rise again, perhaps in newer and better form. And again, thank goodness we have an outstanding Democratic President. The best one I've ever seen.
Cha
(297,323 posts)Yep, the country is still improving whether some chose to see it or not.
Love your attitude.. it mirrors my own..

(11,833 posts)We have millions - millions! - more people covered by affordable health care now. Not one of them - not one! - will be turned down coverage for having a pre-existing condition. Not one ever again!
After the election I came here sad and angry and was hoping for some great reading. Maybe some soul-searching, or some silver linings. Certainly that was the majority of the posts. I like most of the posts here at DU.
Then I started reading posts saying stuff like 'It's the death of democracy' or 'the country as we know it is gone' or 'the democratic party is over' and all that kind of nonsense. I thought to myself, what would those posters have done with a civil rights movement setback 'Run for the hills! We're never going to get equal rights!' Or during the Vietnam War: 'Forget it - we'll never get out of Southeast Asia!' Yeesh. Gimme a break!
Again, I blame the people who voted for Republicans. I don't kick my team for a loss. I say what can we do better next time? We can and will do better. Because we offer policies that are much better for average working Americans. And we believe in taking care of the poor, the disabled, the veterans, those who can't work. We don't kick them to the curb. Our environmental policies alone make us a much better party.
We will be back. We have not gone away!
Take care Cha!
Cha
(297,323 posts)Excellent POINT, lovemydog".. thank you!
That's the point I've been making today for those who say the Democrats offered nothing to "young people".. OMGoodness! Only the future of the Planet. Gawd.. so short sighted.
We still got President Obama and oh, do please try Impeaching and Repealing Obamacare, gop.. that's what ya did when you were in the minority.. the country should be able to see Nothing's Changed.
And, the repubs would NOT be in Power without the US corporatemediawhore$$$$.. who have their backs.
You take good care, lovemydoggie!

(9,426 posts)If only they had taken a leaf from the gop book, got behind this President in lockstep. The gop NEVER said any bad things about the sock puppet the Not So Supremes put into the WH. The dems REALLY should have gloated about the good things, like ACA, low deficit, lower unemployment, higher stock gains. To achieve all that with the obstructionists on the other side was spectacular, and the dems should have known it. President Obama draws adoring crowds wherever he goes. Too bad the dems did not use him to their advantage. Now look, we have people like McConnell in power. I STILL think the "fix" was in long before this election. New voting standards before the next election would be something to fight for.

(45,251 posts)I think those who make a point of looking for the bright side/silver lining do tend to see them.
Some of us are wired that way; some are wired the other way and have to make a conscious effort, but the effort is worth it. Ditto looking for solutions. One of the things about reading posts-not just at DU--is that everyone (including the professional writers and pundits whose articles get linked) seems to want to identify problems, while precious few give us practical, realistic steps toward overcoming a problem. We have to insist on methods of mitigation and solutions.
Rest well, cha
