could switch parties and become a Democratic wing of the Republican Party . I'm being sarcastic of course but how can people win in a gerrymandered state where their vote doesn't count fully?

(14,733 posts)Tell people what you believe and why, and engage in a continuous dialogue with your constituents, trying to convince them to join you on specific issues, and poll constantly, and vote according to how your district wants you to vote on things?
Even in highly gerrymandered districts, there were specific very 'liberal' issues that polled very well. The problem we have is that even when the people DO hold certain liberal positions in such districts, the 'representatives' refuse to represent them on those issues.
So tell your constituents that yes, you are pro-choice, but that if elected, you will represent THEIR will, not your own. That you will vote "pro-life" when such comes up because it is what they want you to, but that you will ALSO vote for universal background checks when the polls tell you they want them.
If we could get deep red districts to vote in Dems who promise to honestly represent the people of the district, we'd be a step ahead of what we get now, where the 'representatives' are even crazier than the constituency.

(45,251 posts)whom Obama nominated to be his first FCC Chair. After several years as FCC Chair, Genachowski left to join the Carlyle Group.

He was replaced by Acting Chair Copps, a fierce advocate of net neutrality, but he was only a place holder. He was succeeded by telecommunications industry insider, Tom Wheeler, who, surprise, surprise, is not a huge fan of net neutrality, at least, not as we understand it, even though he claims to be a fan if you write him to support it
Net neutrality
In late April 2014, the contours of a document leaked that indicated that Wheeler's FCC would consider promulgating rules allowing Internet service providers (ISPs) to violate net neutrality principles by making it easier for Internet users to access certain content whose owners paid fees to the ISPs (including cable companies and wireless ISPs) and harder to access other content,[11] thus undermining the traditional open architecture of the Internet. These plans have received substantial backlash from activists, the mainstream press, and some other FCC commissioners.[12][13] In May 2014, over 100 internet companies including Google, Microsoft, eBay, and Facebook signed a letter to Wheeler voicing their disagreement with his plans, saying they represented a "grave threat to the Internet".[14] As of May 15, 2014, the fast lane bill passed voting with a 3/2 vote. It will now be open to public discussion that ends July 2014.[15]

Now, what were you saying about wanting another left wing of the Republican Party?

(45,251 posts)Doesn't seem to me as as though the Democratic Party really needs a further division.

(45,251 posts)mean I should follow the party agenda unconditionally--whatever it happens to be at the moment--at least as much as they choose to disclose, rather than keep triple secret.
Never say never, but I don't know if I can.

(45,251 posts)The reality seems to be that they are mostly about getting elected and re-elected, no matter what they say.
Did you happen to see the Daily Show Thursday? Wow! It's probably online if you missed it.

(45,251 posts)In March, Obama put Keystone on hold so that blue state candidates did not have to explain it and red state candidates could berate Obama for delaying it. Meanwhile, the business of the nation was on hold for 8 months. He gave another example or two, but that one stuck with me because it worked for both ends of the party's continuum.
