Boyfriend of woman shot by Ann Arbor police: 'Why would you kill her?'

Boyfriend of woman shot by Ann Arbor police: 'Why would you kill her?;

---snip---

"Why would you kill her? He shot her in the head and in the chest," Stephens said. "It was a woman with a knife. It doesn't make any sense."

---snip---

"Me and her, we had an argument. Glass was being broke, so I called the police to escort her out," Stephens said.

When officers arrived, Stephens said he was in a separate hallway in the house away from where the woman was with the knife. Stephens said the woman had a fish knife in her hand when police announced their arrival.

"The police said 'police,' so I stopped. She walked towards them," Stephens said. "They said 'freeze' and the next thing I know I heard (gunshots)."

After the shots were fired, Stephens later asked if he could talk to the woman and that's when he was informed she was dead.

Don't know the details but it sounds like there were a few witnesses so hopefully some semblance of truth will come out. Ugh.

And a far more serious approach from a trainer with 30+ years of experience:

Granted, weed busts still aren't an issue for most people in Ann Arbor (well, at least white people with a clean record), but Ann Arbor ain't what it used to be.

Especially in tight quarters like a home or hallway.
If he heard them say freeze and she kept walking towards the cop with the knife.

I can't blame him

if it was in or close to the knee
but it's better than dead

I'm not a firearm owner so I don't know how easy it is to make a shot like that.

I'm going to imagine it's not an easy shot when you have a person coming at you with a knife.

Here's what the article says:

The 54-year-old Stephens said he was in another part of the house when police announced their arrival, and he stopped moving – but he said Rosser turned toward them.

“They said ‘freeze,’ and the next thing I know I heard (gunshots),” Stephens said.

-----------

So, the cops enter the house, the woman is holding the fish knife, they announce their presence, she "turned toward them," and they shot her. Not that she was advancing on them. When someone announces their presence, people generally turn toward them.

Oh, and this woman is black. I'm sure that has nothing to do with anything.

Not just turned.

But you are correct that from "freeze" to gunshots we don't know if she continued to walk toward the police.

A police officer, even a mild-mannered one, does not want to risk getting knifed to death. They are going to think about their own loved ones first, and not yours.

She had a knife and was pretty harmless to all those cops, but they killed her anyway. However, I am surprised they shot her and didn't taser her instead.

or outside for their arrival...

I'm also very interested in hearing the nature of his 911 call...If he had said something like "My GF has a knife, and she's going crazy threatening to kill me," then of course the cops are barging in ready to shoot...
