Basic training Ft. Knox January 1990
They gave us our "Smart Books" (a very basic 'How to be a US Army Soldier' pocket guide) and told us to learn our 3 General Orders by the next morning .... or we were going to DIE or something like that.
The guy in the bunk next to me (from Kansas I think) said, "These all seem to be about doing guard duty"
Little did we know how much guard duty we would be doing. At one gunnery range we had 2 guards on the gate, 20 yards away 2 guys guarded the track park (parking lot), IN the track park 1 guard on the "Water Buffalo" AND 2 guards on the ammo truck. 7 soldiers just walking around within a very small area.
