A quote widely attributed to Benjamin Franklin, during the Constitutional Convention, when asked what kind of government they formed for us.
It's especially significant today, Veterans Day. Seventy years ago, we fought a World War to stop fascism and prevent corporations from ruling the world. We won that battle, but it seems we've lost the war. We've lost our Republic, and are now living under a fascist government, run by and for corporations. They control all three branches of the federal government. They hold power in most states.
This is not a smear of any single politician or party. It's an observation of a gradual descent that's taken place over several decades.
We're living in what Sheldon Wolin describes as inverted totalitarianism. A managed democracy, or just the appearance of a democracy. It's fascism.
Happy Veterans Day..

And if we are, it's certainly not the traditional style of fascism, which does not generally involve one fascist dictator gracefully handing power over to a different fascist dictator from a different political party, based upon the results of an election.

I was pretty clear about this back in 2007. What I said at that time is far more apparent to the naked eye today than it was then. Florida is probably a little worse than most however.

(2,546 posts)The PUSH is on to ram through Tax Reform and the TPP (Trans Pacific Partnership). All sold by National Propaganda Radio! The construct of each designed to enhance the position of "The Haves" over that of "The Have Nots." Why not put in place a new tax policy that further reduces the tax bills of those at the very top. Want to hear about massive wealth transfers? There is no greater sucking sound than when the top echelon are accorded the right to fleece the pockets of the have nots in order to benefit those at the top. It IS coming...
Here is a taste from The EXPERT on the SECRET Trade Pact called the Trans Pacific Partnership. Look Out!
