10 years ago, freepwads were far to the right of the republican mainstream

Now? They pretty solidly reflect a large and influential segment of the party- one that is leading the party by a nose ring.

DU, although I'd argue that it has become less liberal as a whole, is even farther to the left of the democratic party as whole, than it was a decade ago.

I think that says a lot.

The Democrats of today at least on economics are pretty much the old moderate Republicans - although as the President has pointed out - the old Republicans were in many ways more liberal. Even President Obama said that even in the 80's he would have been more like a moderate Republican. While the Republican Party of today has more in common with the John Birch Society than they do with traditional Republicans.
