This map is making the rounds on social media - I found it on both DailyKos and Twitter.

But I have to ask, just who are the jounalists who have supposedly died in the MidWest? Somewhere along the way, these deaths slipped my consciousness... As in, I have never heard of them?

(32,324 posts)I could not wrap my head around the fact that there ws a lot of energy in the marked spot on the map (I mean, surely we would have heard if 39 or forty journalists had been killed somewhere in the MidWest) - so the wikipedia article detailing that some 39 journalists have been killed here at home gave a lot of information.
And your explantion that the spot in the USA is simply meant to refer to the country as a whole, and not to the idea that the journalists all died at that spot. (As I was assuming.)
I was a bit pleased to see there was mention of Bill Biggart, a photo journalist, who was indeed killed by debris falling on Sept 11 2001.
I have read several atrticles about this man. Apparently he was a rather irascable, curmudgeonly guy - but devoted to letting his camera tell the truth of a situation.
On the morning of Nine Eleven, he decided that he wanted to photograph what he initially thought would merely be the photographic evidence of the incident surrounding a small plane hitting one of the Towers. He walked on foot from his apartment to the scene, and by the time he was in the vicinity of the Towers, it was obvious to everyone that this had been no small plane. He continued working, right up until the moment that the second tower tossed out tons of debris, some of which landed on him and killed him.
I have always found the final few photos he shot to be so emblamatic of that day. The absolute grisly and ghostly quality of the major streets of NYC, blanketed in ash, and then with only an exception or two, devoid of people, stand as mute witness to the horrors of Nine Eleven, in a way that for me, anyway, few other photos could encapsulate.
Among photos done by a few other people, you can see some of the images he captured, as well as a photo of his recovered (but almost incinierated camera), at the below link:
