San Jose police chief got free 49ers tickets in violation of city ordinance

San Jose Police Chief Larry Esquivel, who last month barred his officers from moonlighting as private security guards for the 49ers, is now under investigation for accepting free tickets from the team, officials said Thursday.
The department previously acknowledged that two members of Esquivels command staff had accepted free Niners tickets.
... In October, Esquivel barred his officers from moonlighting as security guards for the 49ers. Later that month, KGO-TV reported that Garcia had accepted a free ticket to the teams first preseason game at Candlestick Park in August 2013 and that Marozick was given a ticket to attend the Aug. 24 game against the San Diego Chargers at the new Levis Stadium in Santa Clara. On Wednesday, KNTV reported that Esquivel had attended the same game as Garcia with a free ticket.
... Ordinarily, accepting the tickets would be allowed under state law and the California Fair Political Practices Commission, Vossbrink said. But a San Jose city ordinance prohibits top city officials from accepting gifts worth more than $50 and expressly bars them from receiving free tickets to pro sporting events.
