Congratulations to Elizabeth Warren! She has been knighted as a member of the Senate Democratic leadership, just in time for Democrats to hand over power to the Republican Party.
She will serve in a newly created position as a liaison to liberal groups. Her official title will be strategic policy adviser to the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee, where she will [help] craft the partys policy positions and priorities. (Just in time for the Democratic Senate leadership to bring up a vote on building the Keystone XL pipeline.)
What does this mean? First thing is that Elizabeth Warren raises a lot of money for the Democratic Party and is being rewarded with a title. As it happens, she addressed the Democracy Alliance of wealthy liberal donors yesterday, and this time, it was as an emissary from the Senate Democratic leadership.
So one of the partys top fundraisers is being given a more visible perch. But how influential will she be? Shell still rank behind Sens. Harry Reid, Dick Durbin and Chuck Schumer, the sort of people who feel plenty confident in their own abilities to craft the partys positions and priorities. The main positions and priorities that the new Senate minority will have to decide is: do we filibuster this thing or not filibuster this thing? No small task, but the question of determining which bills to bring to the floor no longer rest in this leaderships hands.
The biggest signal that this sends is that Warren, who has said shes not running for president about 50 million times but you never know, is still not running for president. In accepting this leadership position, shes helping craft the partys top position and priority, all right, ensuring smooth sailing for Hillary Clinton to win the Democratic presidential nomination.

(52,253 posts)she can't run without allies, but if she did decide to run and had support within the senate leadership, then she could use this position to create senate positions that could embarrass hillary.
it would give her the opportunity to make speeches and advance amendments that suited her message, that drew sharp distinctions between herself and hillary.
in fact she's likely to use the position rather like that anyway, not intending to derail and replace hillary but simply trying to move her more to the left.

(1,596 posts)Let us please understand that.
She is cozy with the Republicans and with the Large Money Groups, this is whom she serves. She can say whatever left sounding sound bytes she wants when it's convenient for her, but that means nothing as she, ahem, has been known to 'exaggerate' a lot then chalk it up to a whole short story of, ahem, 'fabrications' as 'misspeak'!
If this is brought up to show what character she is made of, it's called a Right Wing Talking Point. Hillary's own actions and words are a RW Talking Point. You gotta laugh.

(26,219 posts)Look at how bad Mark Penn fucked up her 2008 chances - and she just stuck with him regardless of the advice to lose that ass and tighten her message. She will surround her campaign with yes-people and Ms Warren is anything but.
