(14,910 posts)There are areas that are forecast to have nearly 70" by Thursday morning...
That's nearly an entire season's snowfall over the period of three-four days!
70 miles east where we live, we barely have 3" on the ground.
Lake snow is amazing stuff!

(28,086 posts)-- I'll take our below temps over that snow. I hate driving when we get a few inches.

(51,308 posts)the outside sign said, "Free beer tomorrow."
I hated when they tore that place down.

(3,208 posts)and I am very glad I don't live by a large lake! Wow. Those people are hardy!
I live in a hilly area of the mid west, we are messed up with even three inches of the right (wrong?) kind of snow.

(86,842 posts)Looks like all the snow we should have by now, in the northern Rockies, has hit Buffalo in one fell swoop. Out here we have only a few paltry inches so far. We should have at least a few feet of the stuff by now.
Good skiing for a while there though.

(14,276 posts)I know that city gets a lot of snow - but, sheesh! Nearly 6 feet of snow in one shot is incomprehensible to me.

(36,286 posts)although it may be happening more often now - cold air dipping down from the Arctic more often to cross over increasingly warm lakes. The big secret about the weather in Upstate NY - we tend to have wonderful Springs, Summers and Falls. Winter is when we stay in and do the housecleaning.

(6,697 posts)for a week the coverage dominated all 3 channels. It swallowed whole neighborhoods. Can not imagine what they went through.

(36,286 posts)it's just whoever heard of Boston, NY? For this storm, South Buffalo took a hit, but my Dad was looking at his grass up north of the city.
The area is very flat, and my Dad can step out his front door and see the "wall" twenty miles south of where he is.

(6,437 posts)Where I live, we got nothing at all (though we are supposed to get hit tonight). 5 miles away got 29 inches. 20 miles away got 3 feet overnight and averaged 5 inches per hour during the day. Most of the city was under driving bans.
People have pretty much taken it in stride, though, and it is supposed to hit 56 degrees next Monday. So, no worries.
